महाभारत महाकाव्य में उल्लेख है कि जब कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में पाण्डवों व कौरवों की विशाल सेनाएँ आमने सामने थी,और धर्मयुद्ध का आरंभ होने ही वहाँ था। तब अर्जुन ने श्री कृष्ण को (जो की अर्जुन के सारथी थे) कहा की -“ हे माधव! मेरा रथ दोनों सेनाओं के मध्य लेकर जाओ, मुझे एक बार इन सेनाओ में खड़े सभी मेरे अपने लोगों को देखना है, मेरे गुरु, मेरे भाई, मेरे दादा सबको देख लूँ क्या पता इस युद्ध के उपरांत इनमें से किन किन को मैं नहीं देख पाऊँगा।”
कृष्ण रथ को सेनाओ के मध्य लेकर जाते है और अर्जुन शत्रु सेना में अपने पितामह, गुरु, चचेरे भाई इन सबको देख कर भावुक हो जाते है और युद्ध ना करने का मन बना लेते है। वे कहते है कि -“ हे माधव! मैं युद्ध नहीं करूँगा, अगर हम युद्ध में विजय हो भी जाते है तो परिणाम यह होगा कि मुझे मेरे अपने दादा, गुरु और भाइयों को खोना पड़ेगा। ऐसी विजय से क्या लाभ? “।
तब श्री कृष्ण अर्जुन को समझाते है कि यह युद्ध क्यों आवश्यक है और उस समय भगवान कृष्ण अर्जुन को गीता के उपदेश देते है और अर्जुन को अपना विराट विश्वरूप दिखाते है और कहते है कि जो कुछ भी हो रहा है मेरे द्वारा हो रहा है। तुम कर्म करो और तुम्हारा कर्तव्य है इस धर्म युद्ध में सम्मिलित होना और युद्ध करना।
तब अर्जुन युद्ध के लिये तैयार होते है और अपना गांडीव धनुष उठाते है।
मैंने इस आर्टवर्क के माध्यम से इसी दृश्य को दिखाने का प्रयास किया है।
