This space is absolutely breathtaking. Between the panoramic view of the forest preserve and the most epic skylight, you feel immediately transported to somewhere that is not the Chicago burbs.
And don’t sleep on that mudroom either 😮💨 the white oak cabinets, integrated hardware, terrazzo floors and smart storage are a symphony all on their own.

1. Confirm how many people you want to comfortably seat.
2. Design a tabletop that can actually do just that.
3. Engineer a base that can support said (very large) top.
4. Measure the clearance of your front door — yes, really. Then make sure your tabletop can fit through it with at least an inch to spare. This 94” table just cleared the 96” door - check out the last slide.
5. Calculate the perfect distance for a lazy susan so guests can fully lean into that lazy name… no awkward Thanksgiving half-stands for second helpings.
6. And then the girl math kicks in: how many charcuterie boards can one fit on a 94” round table with a lazy susan? Trick question, the answer is infinite 🧀

This dramatic roofline was the biggest design challenge at first—it limited layout options and made fitting beds a puzzle. But in the end, it became the most charming feature of the room! After lots of fit tests, we landed on a smart layout with a set of full-size beds and a set of twins, all accessible by stairs (no ladders needed!) so guests of all ages can enjoy.
