Holtermann Fine Art is delighted to present βGlowing Phalangesβ, a solo exhibition by
βGlowing Phalangesβ forms part of Umarβs ongoing project Forbidden Prayers, a body of work he has been developing since 2018. The exhibition presents a series of sculptural works in glass and mixed media; each held in acrylic casts of the artistβs right hand.

Ahmed Umar (*1988) wuchs im Sudan in einer sufitischen Familie auf, die wΓ€hrend seiner Kindheit nach Mekka zog. 2008 floh er vor politischer Verfolgung nach Norwegen. Die Serie verweist auf die Fingerknochen (βΊPhalangenβΉ), die in der islamischen Gebetspraxis als ZΓ€hlpunkte und TrΓ€ger des Glaubens gelten β sie sollen am JΓΌngsten Tag leuchten. FΓΌr Umar wird daraus eine Suche nach IdentitΓ€t, Glauben und Widerstand. Das Kunstmuseum Stuttgart zeigt in der Ausstellung Β»PrΓ€gungen und EntfaltungenΒ« erstmals Werke des KΓΌnstlers und LGBTQIA+-Aktivisten in Deutschland.
