Manaslu, the Mountain of the Spirit, tested every ounce of endurance, patience, and belief. But above all, it’s a reminder that mountains impart life’s lessons in a way that changes you every time, a reminder that you ought to, for the greater good.

The ascent to the world’s 8th highest peak begins with explicit trust. Through endless white canvas, thin air, biting cold and scorching sun in thin ozone, I had my constant- my guide under whose expertise and calm leadership every step was made possible.
The first instruction given to us is-“Trust your guide”, do not put yourself or him at risk by doing otherwise”. On the mountain, every life matters. The entire documentation of my climb and memorable moments, largely belongs to him. At every step of camp rotations-and the days leading up to the final summit push, he was the father figure - taking care of the tent, my hydration, my fuel, my gear check and was the motivation behind my strength. More than anything else, I did not want to disappoint him by giving up. He is a very familiar face to many, which was evident with greetings that came his way enroute to the top. He called me “his big baby”- and I was indeed- by age, by my speed and perhaps by my wise crack statements that I delivered now and then. At every step I placed behind his, I saw the faces of loved ones that I lost and I saw the Gods I pray to as I whispered prayers. This mountain bares your soul( Manaslu in Sanskrit-is soul).
In the PART 2 of this video I have more people to credit and much to share as to why I do this and how my mind is clear every time I face an element of doubt.
From base to summit, this journey stands as a testament to teamwork, resilience, and above all a deep respect for the mountain. The first step is to begin with a company you trust and their dynamic leader who has made this possible for those who dare to dream the impossible.

……When I landed at the airport in Chennai, I decided to forget about my trip to Australia and whatever I had learned. I knew that the IVF procedure could not be done alone, and I will need a dedicated team while also investing in expensive equipment without surety of success. I did not have the finances nor the team. I felt very depressed that I had lost my hard-earned money in the travel and training but felt consoled that I had witnessed something that not many will get a chance to experience.
My husband came to receive me at the airport and proudly showed me the Hindu newspaper, that he was carrying, tucked under his arm. I froze, when I saw the insert, announcing my return after a successful IVF training from Australia. I explained to him gently, that it was not possible for me to do this with immediate effect since it needed a whole lot of investment and skills. Later that evening I cried myself to sleep. The next day when I arrived at the hospital, there stood a long queue of couples, right from the hospital gate to my consulting room, eagerly waiting to see me. I had no other choice but to hide my fears and just move forward.
All of them were above 40-50 years, greying, and carrying heavy files. They had so much Hope and happiness in their eyes that I did not have the heart to tell them that I would not be doing anything to help, at least not immediately. I gently explained to them that I had just come back from training and would take a few months to procure special equipment and culture media ( which I would have to prepare from scratch). Hence, it would take at least 6 months for me to start this work….
