Use a pair of scissors or craft knife to shape your popsicle. I found large scissors the easiest to get a good finish. If you cut from the scourer pad side you will also find this easier and get a much cleaner finish.

•Once shaped, gently remove the scourer pad so you’re just left with the white sponge.
.
• Cut a slit in the bottom of the sponge for your craft stick. You want it be about 1-1.5 inches deep to hold the stick in place.
.
• Now it’s the fun part- decorating your popsicle! First make your sponge damp, squeezing out any excess water. This will help the paint to spread easily. We used ready mix/ tempera paints. They have some really fun ones with added glitter, which were perfect for this project! Once painted on both sides leave them to dry completely.

Finally cut your craft stick down using scissors and poke the end in the slit you created earlier. It should be able to stay in place without glue. If not, make your slit a bit deeper.

Not only is this project great fun, they make great props for pretend play! Why not set up a little shop or cafe with them?

A slight twist on this art project is to paint the sponges to print popsicles- we did this too and they looked fab!
