The Chiapas Dress, better known as the Chiapaneca, dates back to the Spanish Conquest and has evolved from Spanish Colonial influence and indigenous traditions. Its vibrant colors and flowers are used to represent the natural beauty found within Chiapas. The dress is considered a distinctive element during the Fiesta Grande in Chiapa de Corzo, a big celebration where women wear the dress and perform dance movements known as βChamarreoβ or courtship dance.
