Hospital de Sant Pau was built in Barcelona between 1902 and 1930 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the architect widely regarded as the father of Catalan modernisme. The 145,000 m² complex runs on a hybrid structure of Catalan thin-tile vaults carried by a steel skeleton, which is what gives the wards their column-light interiors.

It is laid out as 27 freestanding pavilions set in gardens above a network of underground passages, each ward oriented north-south for daylight and prevailing air. The decorative program was orchestrated as an art direction job, with Eusebi Arnau and Pau Gargallo on sculpture, Mario Maragliano on the mosaics and Josep Perpinyà on the wrought iron.

few notes on this week’s three.

Wretched Flowers is the studio of Loney Abrams and Johnny Stanish, working out of New Fairfield, Connecticut. Their chainmail pieces, from lamps to curtains to sconces, are inspired by ancient craft and built almost entirely by hand.

Balboa Design builds the Psilo V2 between industrial logic and handwork. The three aluminium sheets are laser-cut, hand-folded, sanded, and then waxed to a satin finish. The walnut beams come from a local French sawmill and are stained black and varnished. The leather seat and backrest are vegetable-tanned and hand-moulded by a craftsman.

The Ventaglio coat stand was first published in Domus magazine, issue 546, in May 1975. Tarzia produced it in red, white, black, and green, with seven hinged wood rods on a plastic and cast iron base. Fully extended it reaches about 170 cm tall and 150 cm wide, which is what allows it to function as a room divider.

Here are the coolest pieces from my feed this week. Number one is the Summit House, originally built for attorney Herb Hafif, who lived there until 2019. Foster Rhodes Jackson studied at MIT and served in the Navy before landing at Taliesin, and across his career he completed an estimated 800 projects throughout Southern California. Number two is the Millán House by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, who would go on to win the Pritzker in 2006, the second Brazilian ever to receive it after Oscar Niemeyer. A lifelong communist, he saw his stripped-back concrete as a direct rejection of the bourgeois villa. The last item is Villa Aram by French designer Cyrus Ardalan, who describes his approach as an architecture of adjustment, one shaped entirely by site, climate, and whatever materials are close at hand. The central courtyard nods to the impluvium house, a vernacular form built to gather rainwater.

What makes an office worth leaving the house for? At Aeyde Haus, the answer is written into the structure itself.

I had the pleasure of meeting both Luisa Dames and Judith Haase at the new headquarters in Berlin. Luisa is the founder of the footwear and accessories brand; Judith is founding partner of the prestigious architecture office. Beyond their shared design language, restrained and sophisticated, the two women share a friendship that stretches back years, the very first Aeyde office having been born in what was once Judith Haase’s apartment. A natural alignment that took the form we can see today.

Rather than dressing the building up, Gonzalez Haase stripped it back. Decades of added layers came off until the bare bones showed through. The idea was to distil the building down to its essence and let light, structure, and tone-giving materials, mirror, metal, glass, concrete, and fabric, be the main protagonists on this stage.I wouldn’t work from home anymore if this were my office.
A few notes on this week’s three.

Technogym’s chrome finish isn’t just for looks. The plating technique is borrowed from high-end motorcycle production, which is what gives it that mirror shine and keeps it resistant to sweat and wear over time.

The Javier Cámara painting is one of his mixed-media canvases of interlocking figures. He’s represented out of Frankfurt, and his work runs deliberately large, some pieces up to three meters wide, which is exactly why it can hold a wall like this one and set the tone for the whole room.

The draped side table belongs to a long tradition of trompe-l’œil furniture, where a solid material is worked to imitate soft fabric. The style goes back to designers like John Dickinson, who made the look famous in carved plaster. Seeing it done in solid wood, fooling the eye into reading hard as soft, is what makes this one worth a closer look.

Drake knows Hotels and leaves a paper trail behind. Across three new albums, Drake kept slipping in the names of the most beautifully designed hotels in the world. So I did what any architecture obsessed person would do and mapped them all.

It starts with in Bodrum, a Mediterranean retreat by Milan’s ACPV Architects, the same firm behind the Bvlgari hotels in London and Paris. From there it runs all the way to the Bahamas. Here is every luxury hotel Drake name dropped or hinted at across Iceman, Maid of Honour and Habibti.

Had the pleasure of taking a look at the set design for the Men’s Fall/Winter 2026 show, has truly outdone itself with this one!
There is much to be said about both architectural and furniture design movements. Often, the boundaries between them are more fluid than one might expect, with certain works reflecting the visual language of multiple eras. Design movements are frequently associated with specific regions, such as Italian Rationalism or the Wiener Secession. They remain valuable tools for communicating ideas and exploring particular aesthetics with your architect or interior designer.
