There are so many things I used to do that I can’t quite do the same way anymore. But motherhood has also brought me feelings and moments I’ve never experienced before, and somehow, I don’t miss my old life as much as I thought I would.
I’ve especially missed creating in the kitchen. Having to temporarily give up dairy and eggs has made that a little harder, but I’m slowly finding my way around it.
I truly believe that one day I’ll be back in my kitchen, creating freely again. Until then, I’m learning to enjoy this version of life, too. 🤍

Hummingbird cake
Vanilla sponge with strawberry & sumac compote and white chocolate buttercream
Poppy seed & olive oil cake with lemon syrup, raspberry jam, and chantilly cream
a handful each of almonds and walnuts, unsweetened corn flakes, pretzel crackers, and melted chocolate — topped with a bit of dried raspberries.

Stollen Scones
3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
1/4 cup raisins or sultanas
1/4 cup dried currants
1/4 cup candied peel
1/4 cup dried cranberries
100g marzipan pieces
Half orange juice & zest of 1 orange
1/2 cup (120 ml) milk or cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
Stir in dried fruit, marzipan, sugar, orange zest and orange juice, vanilla & almond extract set aside for about 30 minutes.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices.
Rub in the cold butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add milk or cream to the bowl and gently mix until just combined.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into a 2.5 cm / 1-inch thick round. Cut into wedges or rounds.
Place on tray and bake for 18–22 minutes, until risen and lightly golden at 200°C.
While warm, brush generously with melted butter
