El programa radial La Descarga, transmitido por Radio 940 AM y con más de 25 años de trayectoria, seleccionó a Ayden Owens-Delerme y a la juvenil Francés Colón como Atletas del Año 2025, reconociendo un año histórico para el atletismo puertorriqueño.
🔹 Ayden M. Owens Delerme fue elegido tras una temporada extraordinaria que incluyó medalla de plata en el Mundial de Atletismo en Tokio, estableciendo récord nacional en el decatlón con 8,784 puntos y una remontada memorable en los 1,500 metros, quedándose a solo 20 puntos del oro mundial. Su actuación lo impuso en la votación sobre figuras consolidadas del deporte internacional.
🔹 En la rama femenina, la velocista ponceña Francés Colón, con apenas 18 años, se alzó con el reconocimiento tras un año espectacular:
• Récord LAI de 100 metros (11.38), vigente por 37 años
• Oro en 200m y plata en 4x100 en las Justas
• Bronce en 100m en los Panamericanos Juveniles (primera velocista boricua en lograrlo)
• Oro y dos platas en el NACAC U20
• Marca personal de 11.31 (#20 del ranking mundial U20)
• Parte del relevo 4x100 con récord nacional (44.58) y #11 del mundo U20

Ayden Owens reafirmó su lugar entre la élite del atletismo mundial al conquistar la medalla de plata en el decatlón del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo Tokio 2025. Durante la temporada mejoró el récord nacional de Puerto Rico en eventos múltiples al registrar 8,784, la cuarta mejor marca del año a nivel mundial. Además, es segundo del mundo en el ranking mundial del decatlón, consolidándolo como uno de los atletas más completos en la historia de Puerto Rico.
Alysbeth Félix, por su parte, se dedicó de lleno al salto largo y firmó la que es, hasta el momento, la mejor temporada de su carrera. Este año saltó 6.78 metros, su marca personal y la segunda mejor marca en la historia de Puerto Rico en el evento de salto largo. En el ranking mundial se posiciona número 23 del mundo, y en el Mundial finalizó 13 entre 36 atletas, logrando la mejor representación entre las féminas puertorriqueñas en esta edición y la tercera mejor actuación de una mujer puertorriqueña en la historia de un Mundial. Además, hizo historia al convertirse en la primera mujer puertorriqueña en clasificar a un Mundial tanto en el heptatlón (2017) como en el salto largo (2025).
Por marcas, por ranking y por resultados al más alto nivel: Ayden Owens Delerme y Alysbeth Félix fueron los mejores atletas puertorriqueños del atletismo esta temporada.
Este fin de semana ambos se reencontraron en Salinas, participando en las clínicas de atletismo para niños y niñas que Ayden Owens realiza anualmente, aportando directamente al desarrollo de la próxima generación del atletismo puertorriqueño.

Ayden es uno de los atletas del Programa de Becas de Alto Rendimiento del DRD, por lo que personal de la agencia dijo presente en el merecido homenaje preparado por el alcalde, José Corcino.
El subsecretario, Miguel Laureano, y el director de Alto Rendimiento del DRD, Radamés Tirado, acompañaron a Ayden en los recorridos altededor de la Isla Nena. Junto a ellos también estuvo el senador Héctor Joaquín Sánchez.
