Initiation, the latest body of work by Anya Molyviatis.
All works in the series share a consistent formal structure. Each piece is a 42 × 42 inch square composition organized around a central curve that divides two chromatic fields rendered within the artist’s woven, three-dimensional waffle structures. These surfaces emphasize depth, rhythm, and subtle optical movement.

Conceptually, Oneiric explores the space between dreaming and waking, not as opposing conditions, but as intertwined states of experience. Inspired in part by a passage from The Upanishads, “As a great fish
swims between the banks of a river as it likes, so does the shining self move between the states of dreaming and waking,” the series considers how perception moves fluidly between dualities. Within this framework, the curved division and dual color gradients function as formal analogues for shifting states, while color serves as the primary language through which these transitions unfold.

A defining and innovative feature of the series is the custom framing system developed by the artist. Each work is mounted within a rotating mechanism that allows the piece to spin and settle into multiple orientations. This kinetic element introduces a dynamic relationship between object and viewer, allowing the composition to be experienced differently over time.
