Farmers market basket when you’re 2 🍓 🌞
Our toddler has had a lingering sickness (she’s fine) and all week she asked to go to the farmers market to get strawberries - her current favorite ritual and treat. So we made a day of it. We snagged a big box of berries and when we got home, we sprinkled some of them with sugar and salt to let their juices get all syrupy. We let them sit for a few hours. Later, we spooned ‘em over freshly baked shortcakes with over-whipped but still delicious whipped cream. We told her we wanted to make something special to celebrate her feeling better, and she asked if we could put a candle on top 🥹. It was a long week of caregiving, waking up at night, and just getting to the market that day is a story for another time. But slowing down and creating this ritual around the simplest treat was just what we needed. Made even more special because peak strawberry season is so fleeting. Kids are magic ✨ 🍓

’ cucumber scallion toast is the kind of thing you make once… and then keep coming back to.

INGREDIENTS:
•crispy toasted sourdough
•something creamy (labne, avo, cottage cheese—whatever you’ve got)
•thinly sliced cucumber + scallions
•olive oil, lemon, chili flakes, flaky salt

PRO TIP: fold the scallions into your labne or smashed avocado first to really let that flavor come through

that’s it. fresh, bright, a little crunchy, a little creamy. the kind of flavor that only works when your ingredients are actually good.

even better when the cucumbers + scallions are harvested right before you eat 🫶

Ricotta Pasta with Peas + Prosciutto 🫛 🍋 🤌🏼

This creamy pasta is balanced with layyyeerrss of sweet spring flavors and just the right amount of salty punch. There’s ricotta. Scallions, lemon, and peas that pop with sweetness in each bite. Parmesan. And prosciutto! Shatteringly crisp prosciutto adds little salty hits all throughout the dish. Hello from the land of: baby wearing while cooking, sitting on the kitchen floor with my toddler showing her how to mix and mash and whisk and stir and taste and smell and season, breastfeeding, burp cloths everywhere, laundry piles everywhere, nap traps, milk drunk baby snuggles, my yogurt crusted kitchen and dining room (if you have a toddler you know), art projects, starting solids with our 5 month old, deep breaths, never wanting this phase to end, and so much more. I don’t really have photos to show for it because I’ve really just tried to put my phone away. But!

I’m slowly coming back online (literally, figuratively) after having our youngest daughter in September. Life with a toddler and a baby is chaotic and also so fulfilling and sweet. I am currently focusing on cooking food that feels GOOD (more on this later). Today I am editing two posts: one on how I prepped meals for postpartum, and another on starting solids with babies and just feeding toddlers in general. If you have questions on those two topics drop ‘em below! Feels good to be back 🐣 💕

Springy things to eat stat 🫛 🍓 🍋 🫘 all recipes are on my website!

1. Toasts with Burrata and Smashed Minty Peas - developed this to pair with the Picpoul!
2. Herby Marinated White Beans - I make a batch of ayocote blanco beans and marinate them in a dressing with evoo, lemon, shallot, and marjoram. I want to add some thinly sliced snap peas in there next time! So good spooned on toast, or nestled into bowl of salad greens with rotiss chix. The longer they sit in the fridge the better they taste.
3. Creamy Asparagus + Potato Soup 🥔 springy, cozy, and must be topped w the juiciest olive oil croutons.
4. Ricotta Pasta with Peas + Prosciutto 🫛 with lotsss of scallions too
5. Lemon + Ginger Green Smoothie 🍋 🫚 old faithful
6. Strawberry + Rhubarb Crisp 🍓 🧈 enjoy with the vanilla bean ice cream, trust
7. Springtime Salad with Cilantro Citrus Dressing 🫛 🫜 🍋 crisp up some chicken skin and throw it on top!
Creamy Asparagus + Potato Soup
🌱🧄🥔
This is my dream dinner when spring asparagus is in season and it’s still a little chilly out. So silky and rustic from the potatoes, and fresh and green from the asparagus. Finish it with fresh marjoram and my homemade torn croutons. The croutons are made with an absurd amount of olive oil which gives them a perfectly crispy on the outside texture that isn’t too crunchy for your teeth, while still being tender (and dare I say juicy?!) on the inside from all the evoo. A vibe. Recipe is on so go get it 🤍🌞
