This isn’t a workshop where you simply copy a technique and off you go. It’s a week where you rediscover why you started creating in the first place. Someone stepping back from an arrangement they weren’t sure about and realizing, slowly, that it was actually good, that it was theirs. Someone trying a color combination they never would have risked at home and watching it work. A whole room quietly relearning what it feels like to trust their own eye.

To say I photographed a lot of beautiful flowers would be an incredible understatement and what a gift it was to be surrounded by locally grown and sourced flowers. But what I kept chasing with my camera was that particular kind of focus, the one that shows up on a person’s face right before they surprise themselves. Italy gives that space to happen. The unhurried pace, the light, the permission to try something and fail at it in front of other people who are also trying. That’s where the real growth lives.

Our wonderful Floral Artistry Retreat was one for the books. A fairytale, to be exact.
With our beautiful attendees as main characters. Don’t they look like actual flower fairies in these photos?! 😍
It really was as magical as it all looks.

Not because Kim didn’t capture our week perfectly, but because I was there to experience it in real life! Lol, small detail 😆
There was just so much LOVE in the air, I’ve been floating on it for weeks now. We supported each other, uplifted each other, held each other in every way.
Yes, it was hard work.
Yes, I made 19-20h days.
Yes, my voice gave up at the end of the week.
But oh YES, it was worth every single second.
From the hands-on classes, branding sessions, photography class, 1:1 mentoring to the delicious food, my talented guest educators, the foam free group installation and ALL THE LOCAL SLOW FLOWERS.. it was heaven 🙌🏻
We would do it all again in a heartbeat.
And guess what?!

Here are some Solstice moments I shot on film over the years. The flower crowns are made on the longest day, a little personal tradition I might skip this year. We just got home from a family visit and it’s too hot to go pick flowers or grasses 😅
I will share a post in my stories that talks about all kinds of traditions throughout Europe. Bonfires, flower crowns & wreaths, dances, lake swims, fern quests and general unhinged behavior (lol). It’s an inspiring post for sure!

Flatlays really are perfect way to use leftovers, short stems or fallen heads. And to keep track of what’s flowering right now! I really should do one at least every month. Maybe I will, now that I said this ‘out loud’.
Before you ask, the names I know are on the last slide.
The purple one míght be Rosengarten Zweibrücken, but I’m not 100% sure. I know it’s a rose that I bought at, years ago.
Roald Dahl is one of my favourite roses and not well represented with those yellow remains. At all. Look her up, she’s a stunner! 💛
Everyone else was never formally introduced to me, so they will remain anonymous.
But it’s not about the names anyway.
It’s about the raindrops on that piece of foliage.
It’s about the way Cubana shifts from honey to peach to pink.
It’s about the pink water marks on Sally Holmes’s petals.
And it’s about creating beauty.
Maybe not a lush arrangement or giant installation this time. Maybe it’s something quicker, smaller, more modest. But it’s beauty nonetheless. And feel free to disagree.. but I think it makes a pretty nice IG post too 😏

Our beautiful Floral Artistry Retreat (the 2026 Italy edition) is officially over. I’m at the airport, on my way back home.
My heart is full and my head is still processing everything that happened. It was a magical, busy, wonderful blur.
But a few things are perfectly clear:
🌸 How grateful I am for my right hand, my flower angel, the backbone of the entire retreat: Ana Maria. No words, just love.
🌸 How amazing my entire team was! Thank you for joining me, for guest teaching and for your excitement! (I can’t wait to see your gorgeous photos!)

Charlotte and I both love colour and we had so many flowers, we couldn’t decide what palette to go for. So we just used ALL the colours 🦄
We started with foam free mechanics, as always! After that, we created a base layer with cotoneaster, photinia flowers & alchemilla.
Lilacs (both wholesale & from my garden) added even more texture & fluff 👌🏻
And then.. a riot of colour & flowers. Seasonal beauties like tulips, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus, hellebores and allium. For the spots in between water sources we used Dutch carnations.
The yellow chiffon peonies were on their very last legs so we didn’t have enough to really make them work but they added some much needed focal areas. Sort of. 🥀
And to finish it off: wild cherry blossoms, akebia vines & geum. Plus, some bio moss for that fresh garden feel 🌱
It’s our maximalist antidote for the beige flower trend we’ve been seeing the past years. It may not be perfect, but it’s full of JOY!!
And most importantly, we loved creating it! I’m sure you can tell from the last clips 😍🥳
Charlotte, it was a pleasure to have you here the past 2 days. You were an amazing student and a great team player. I loved how you ran towards challenges and how you embraced new things.

People who know me in real life would *also* tell you I’m…
Most likely to:
* Go on a 2 hour google search just so I can find you the name of a rare but cute plant you saw somewhere in a garden overseas.
* Wear my heart not just out of my sleeve, but in my hand. Some might call it oversharing, I call it disarming 🙃
* Take a hundred pictures (digital, film, videos too!) of an arrangement and never share any of them. Current camera roll count: 75.687.
Least likely to:
* Keep things ‘small and simple’. Why do it the easy way, when you can make it extra complicated & time consuming? 😆
* Praise my own work, because I’m self taught and have a persistent inner critic that seems to think I’m still not good enough. (I have ways to shut him up though!)
* Remember to jump out of the way of the coffee table (/doorframe/kitchen counter) that has been there for 5 years. If you’re wondering about that giant bruise on my leg.. don’t. 🙄
