One of the great minds once wrote that all the world is a stage, and we are merely actors playing our roles. Those roles are already written by the director, and while you may have some room for improvisation depending on the situation, the rest is out of your control. So beating yourself up, taking offense, grieving or getting disappointed over how the plot has unfolded simply makes no sense. It’s even a bit funny. After all, we don’t seriously mourn an unfortunate plot twist in a movie or a play. You might give in to an emotional impulse and shed a tear for a couple of minutes, but it won’t interfere with the normal course of life that follows.
Someone hurt you, didn’t meet your expectations, you didn’t get that promotion, your boss or commander is an idiot with all the predictable consequences, you were misunderstood or undervalued, treated unfairly — and then there’s a whole list of other very “global” disasters in your life… But in reality, it’s just one of the stories you create and tell yourself. Step around the corner of that story, look at it from a different angle, and it will suddenly start playing with different colors, sounds, and meanings.
This is my main struggle — I tend to linger in one story for too long, retelling it to myself over and over again, adding more and more details that work against me. But it could all be much simpler. You just have to stop taking yourself too seriously. Because in the end, all of this — and all of us — is temporary. So let’s savor even the bittersweet, slightly sharp taste of what’s happening around us, and the role we’re forced to play in it all. Even if that role happens to be the army:)
Speaking of the army. Our fundraiser for a vehicle — a minibus for my new unit, “Serpente” — has slowed down a bit. I see this as a result of the holiday season and try not to take it too seriously.
But the vehicle is still very much needed.

Despite everything, I wish you all the chance to celebrate this holiday in a comfortable (as much as possible) atmosphere, surrounded by the family or like-minded people.
This year I am celebrating Christmas with my new family — my new Brazilian unit named Serpente. They are incredible people, and I never stop feeling proud of all the volunteers who traveled from far away to stand with us and support us in our fight.
Alongside our shared wish for Ukraine’s victory, we also have a more local Christmas wish: a vehicle for our unit. It would allow us to carry out our current tasks more independently and efficiently. We would be deeply grateful if you chose to support this effort.

I know it’s been quite a while since I last shared any updates about what’s been happening in my life. So I’m catching up now—telling you a bit about what’s going on, and not only that…
I think it’s no secret to many of you that my main military specialization in the army is working with foreigners, specifically Portuguese-speaking ones. These are volunteers who come to Ukraine to help us deal with the russian invasion.
At the moment, I am directly involved—as the senior sergeant—in the creation of a new Portuguese-speaking unit called Serpente, within the Third Corps. Most of the fighters in this unit are from Brazil, though not limited to. For now, that’s all I can share in terms of specific details.
This is a new, ambitious, and exciting project, and I truly hope it will become strong, useful and making a difference for our country. However, as with anything new, the early stages come with many questions and challenges that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, much of this has to be handled independently, with the help of caring people who haven’t yet grown completely tired of constant requests and needs.
So I am reaching out to you as well, asking you to join the fundraising effort for my new unit and our current needs. The most urgent one right now is a vehicle for transporting personnel. I would be very grateful for any financial contribution you can make, or perhaps someone might be able to donate a minivan they no longer use—or sell one at a reasonable price, not for all the money in the world.
Sadly, our needs don’t end with a vehicle, so we will be thankful for any kind of support: warm clothing, individual first aid kits, training tourniquets, and other equipment for tactical medical training, etc.
I will personally be responsible for receiving and using all donated assistance, with proper reports, photos, and videos. And of course, there will be immense gratitude from the guys—and from me personally!

A friend on Facebook shared it, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have even remembered it.
But sometimes, when certain photos pop up in front of me — like this one, for example — it feels as though that past journey, which seems like a ghost, something that might never have happened at all, suddenly gains new meaning and relevance. These two parts of my life that seem so incompatible and opposite — travel and war, freedom and the army — at times, they actually complement each other and can no longer exist separately.
A few years later, I look at this photo and realize — that’s me. And somehow, that’s even more me now than it was back then. Because right now I’m standing, so tiny and weak, in front of a literal giant — a system I can’t seem to overcome. And I don’t know what to do about it. It towers above me, tens of thousands of times more powerful than I am — so what are my chances? Turning back and walking away seems like the only option.
But then another image comes to mind — the story of David and Goliath, often used to describe Ukraine in its struggle against russia. So perhaps size, scale, or outward strength aren’t what truly matter. What matters is something entirely different — something that must be found within oneself, perhaps partly outside too, but never by relying on conventional measures.
For now, I don’t feel the strength to fight this giant. I don’t understand what I can do. But turning away and giving up doesn’t feel as an option.

Other times, you’re following the path not because you’re searching, but because you’ve already found.You’re simply moving in the direction of your passion—it leads you, glowing like a small fire or distant beacon. Or maybe it walks right beside you, very close, perhaps even holding your hand.
And sometimes… you’re just walking. Not searching, not aiming for any destination— just moving for the sake of movement itself. Because you can’t do otherwise. Because that is the purpose. And along the way, that’s when unexpected and unlooked-for meanings emerge.
I think I’ve had many kinds of paths and roads in my life. All sorts. All directions. With meanings, and with meaninglessness suddenly transformed into depth. With curiosity about what’s around the next corner. With passions that sometimes guided—and sometimes blinded.
Now, today, as I complete another orbit around the Sun and begin a new year, I find myself on a path of searching. I know what I want. I can see it with my inner vision— but I don’t yet know which direction will take me there.
So… just wish me clarity. Wish me to find that path. Cross your fingers for me.
And of course, one more birthday wish— the one we all hold closest: that our shared difficult journey, which we have been on for many years, leads to the full, long-awaited, and undeniable victory for our beloved Ukraine.
Finally, as I flip through the pages of memories from the past year stepping on a new path of my personal new year, I pause on the ones I’m infinitely grateful for— to the Universe, to God, to my brothers- and sisters-in-arms, to friends, to family.
Grateful for another year.

Багато з людей на цьому фото вже ніколи не повернуться до своїх країн і не побачать своїх рідних, багато з них так і залишаться лежати в цій землі, яка не будучи їм рідною, стала їхнім останнім притулком. Я не можу не захоплюватись ними. Тоді як це обов’язок кожного з нас захищати своє, вони мали повне право стояти осторонь і спокійно жити в своїх домівках зі своїми сім’ями. Але вони обрали інший шлях…
Знаю, що дехто називає їх найманцями, які приїхали лише заради грошей. Не нам судити про це. Ніякі гроші не вартують втраченого здоров’я і життя. Тим більше, що вони служать на тих самих умовах, що і українці, вони гинуть так само, як і ми. Але на відміну від нас, вони знаходяться дуже далеко від рідного дому, багатьом з ним важко адаптуватись до нашого клімату, кухні, мови, менталітету, їх оточують чужі люди, і на жаль, досить часто вони стикаються зі зневагою і неприйнятним ставленням.
Я маю хороших друзів серед них, і я пишаюсь кожним із них. І мені так хочеться, щоб ті з них, хто повернеться назад до своїх країн, повернулись із добрими спогадами і також пишались своїм досвідом в Україні.
Їх дуже легко впізнати і зрозуміти, що вони з інших країн. Не соромтеся підійти і просто сказати Thank you. Навіть якщо це не англомовні, вони зрозуміють, і цей прояв вдячності для них буде так само важливий і цінний, як і для українських військових, а можливо, навіть і більше.
