It was a real privilege to be part of the faculty, and particularly meaningful to contribute as the only consultant dermatologist speaking at a meeting led by some of the UK’s most respected plastic surgeons.
My talk focused on laser technology, governance, complications, patient selection, and the realities of building a laser practice beyond the marketing language. A lot has changed since my laser preceptorship abroad in 2015, but one thing has not: good outcomes still depend on judgement, experience, and understanding the science properly.
Very grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective and experience with colleagues 🙏🏾
I have a positive family history. My father died of heart disease, so I always knew cardiac disease was somewhere in my future. What I hadn't reckoned with was being 43. I had assumed, as a woman, that oestrogen would offer me some protection until at least the menopause.
My symptoms were exertional: shortness of breath and chest tightness in the first 400 metres of a warm up run, walking uphill, in cold weather. Over four to five months, perhaps a dozen episodes, initially infrequent enough to rationalise, then increasingly not. The findings were a ruptured soft plaque with over 70% occlusion of my left anterior descending artery. It is sometimes called the "widow-maker", and not without reason.
I have always cared genuinely about lifestyle and exercise, not only out of necessity but because I actually enjoy it. Yet none of it made me immune from disease, and none of it was visible on the surface. Health is NOT an aesthetic. You cannot look at someone and draw any reliable conclusion about what is happening inside their coronary arteries, and the longer we conflate the two, the longer people will ignore symptoms they should not be ignoring.
In women, angina presentations are frequently atypical and frequently dismissed: jaw pain, nausea, breathlessness and profound fatigue are all recognised. Get your cholesterol checked, and ask specifically about Lp(a), a genetically determined lipoprotein that independently raises cardiovascular risk and is routinely absent from standard lipid panels.
Know your numbers. Know your family history. You can't always outrun your genetics with diet and exercise. Your health is ultimately your own responsibility. Life is short and you owe it to yourself to do the work and be given the opportunity to age well 🙏🏾
Three cycles, two failed transfers, the opening of a clinic, and then an unexpected and premature heart condition.
Much of the journey to this point has stayed private. Now, six years later, we have welcomed our baby girl through surrogacy, from an embryo created right at the very beginning of that process.
I am entering parenthood at 46, which was certainly not the timeline I once imagined. However, life has a way of reminding and humbling us that health, illness, joy and loss do not follow a universal schedule.
Grateful for science, for resilience, and for the extraordinary people who made this possible.
In 2015, on a different platform, I posted "Create the things you wish existed.” At the time it was simply a thought. Looking back now, I realise it became the blueprint for Self London.
The clinic was never created to be loud or showy. Its goal was to be a place where dermatology, technology and aesthetics could coexist with integrity, where decisions are driven by expertise and experience, and where patients are treated thoughtfully without compromise.
Owning a clinic is very different from working in one. The past three years have been a sharp learning curve, far beyond anything a medical degree or qualification can teach you. You learn about leadership, responsibility, financial reality, resilience, and human nature. You meet some of the best people, and occasionally some of the worst. You learn quickly what your values are because you have to defend them daily.
There have been real highs: industry recognition, milestones that once felt distant, and watching an idea become something tangible. However, the quieter achievements matter more: meaningful partnerships based on trust and shared standards, investing in the right technology before it is popular, and creating protocols that prioritise long-term outcomes.
What makes Self London special is not that we try to appeal to everyone. We do not. We are deliberate in how we work. The patients who choose us tend to value depth, honesty, and evidence-led care. They understand that expertise is often quiet.
Most of all, I am proud of the team. Talented, thoughtful, kind people who show up every day with the same commitment to doing things properly. A clinic is only as strong as the people behind it, and I feel very lucky to work alongside them.
Three years in, the vision feels clearer than ever. So much already achieved but so much more for us to build and learn as we head into year 4 ❤️
When I founded Self London, the intention was never to create another aesthetic clinic. It was to build a consultant dermatologist-led space where clinical judgement is key, technology is chosen with purpose, and treatment decisions are grounded in proper understanding of skin biology and the wider factors that shape it.
I am “straight-talking” both professionally and personally and I believe patients deserve honesty, clarity, and thoughtful recommendations. Laser and energy based dermatology sit at the centre of what we do, from acne and acne scarring to pigmentation, vascular change and structural ageing. Our protocols are built on experience, precision, and careful clinical planning.
Self London has also been among the early adopters of technologies in the UK we believe genuinely move the field forward, including AviClear, Sofwave Pure Impact VIP, BBL HEROic and Ultraclear. This reflects a commitment to bringing meaningful innovation into a doctor led-setting, where devices are integrated intelligently and used to deliver natural, measurable, long term results. Just as importantly, we do not treat skin in isolation. Lifestyle, hormones, stress, sleep, movement and nutrition all influence outcomes. This perspective is embedded into the way we assess and treat every patient. It is part of our core philosophy rather than an add-on.
Over time, we have built one of the most carefully curated device portfolios in the UK, shaped by expertise rather than marketing. We are not for everyone, and we are comfortable with that. We are for patients who value genuine expertise, integrity, and thoughtful, evidence based care.
Recognition like this is less about a single moment and more about consistency. It is about quietly building, refining, and holding the same standards year after year. Thank you to the patients who trust what we are creating. We will continue to do the work, thoughtfully and without compromise 🙏🏾
“We’re always chasing the next, new exciting innovation. But for me it’s all about the foundations. They’re not super glamorous but they are things that I think really matter.”

Out of over 2,300 nominations across categories, our independent, consultant-led clinic has been recognised for the work we do every single day: combining world-class dermatology and laser with intelligent aesthetics and a holistic philosophy of self-care.
This recognition means a lot to us because Self London was built from the ground up. There were no investors or shortcuts; just a deep belief in excellence, integrity, and creating a space where skin health and wellbeing are treated with care and intelligence.
Public voting is now open, and I know I speak for the entire team that we would be so grateful for your support. Every vote counts in helping us bring intelligent, evidence-based aesthetics to the forefront of London’s wellness scene.
Thank you to every patient, supporter, and friend who has been part of this journey with us. I would be so grateful if you have ever found my account useful over the years, to drop us a vote! 🙏🏾❤️
Just over two weeks ago I was found to have a severe blockage (or stenosis) in one of the main blood vessels of my heart resulting in a procedure known as an angioplasty and stent last week. A catheter was passed through my right wrist to access my heart; a balloon then dilated the blockage caused by a fatty plaque and stent was placed to keep my blood vessel open.
Three days prior to my angioplasty I had lifted a deadlift PB. I am 43. I don’t smoke, I’m not diabetic or overweight, and turns out my cholesterol isn’t that high either. I don’t have any of the classical lifestyle risk factors for heart disease. My father, however, died of early onset heart disease in his early 40s. The genetic component for me is clearly the driver and I am relieved that I have managed my lifestyle (especially physical fitness) over the years.
I am recovering well and feeling grateful and positive. I have also already been back in the gym doing a graded return to exercise. I am sharing this with you because I don’t see the point of having a platform this large and not being able to use for good. It’s not all make-up brushes and face creams.
I was shocked (despite being a doctor) to learn that coronary heart disease kills twice as many women as breast cancer in the U.K. There is a misconception it is a disease of men and data from shows that women are less likely to recognise the symptoms of heart disease, leading to a delay in seeking life-saving help.
These are three main points I want to make:
1. If you have a family history of heart disease ie first-degree relative affected at a young age (male<55y, female<65y) please be aware this may put you at higher risk. Lifestyle management with diet and exercise, as well as blood tests to check your glucose and lipids are essential for aggressive early management.

Sampoorna hum hangs above the mirror of Room 1 - it translates into “I am whole in my being” or “I am complete”.
This captures the essence of the vision for Self London. Self is about more than just skin, Self is about treating the whole being. It is about long-term life skills to look after your skin, your diet and your mental health. It is about inspiring confidence. Self embodies everything I believe in; how I practice medicine and how I live my life.
I could not be more proud to see this go up today 🙏🏾😭
