On a warm late-spring evening, we went for a stroll and improvised a simple, bucolic photoshoot. The light was intense and beautiful, and we spent the evening playing with the contrast between sunlight and shadow filtering through the trees. At times, the wind moving the branches created shifting patterns across her face that felt almost underwater, as if she were drifting beneath the surface of a lake.
Needless to say, she took my breath away again.

A very public setting posing outside the Bundeskanzleramt (Federal Chancellery) - Located next to the Reichstag building.
Might not sound very creative, but it was an excellent location! Concrete curves and lines served as a great backdrop to make my new leopard print pop.
Andrej is one of the few photographers I don’t feel as shy in front of, which was very important here, because having boats go by cheering, and tourists stopping to take pictures, is not something I would have been able to deal very will with a few years ago 🫣 Despite this, we managed to get some super fun results 🏢

The original plan was to photograph him in the conservatory at the Barbican. I’d even put together a botanical-inspired mood board specifically for him. Unfortunately, the space had been booked for a wedding that day, so we had to pivot. Instead of lush greenery, we found ourselves surrounded by concrete, geometry, and the brutalist architecture that makes the Barbican so distinctive.
Meeting Luke was exactly as I’d imagined and completely different at the same time. He’s a burst of energy: playful, funny, and someone who never seems to take himself too seriously. But as the shoot unfolded, I got the sense that all that sparkle also serves as a kind of shield, protecting a quieter, more vulnerable side. There was a shyness there that occasionally peeked through the cracks, and those moments became the ones that interested me most.
I wish I’d had a little more energy myself that day. I’d slept barely two hours before catching my flight to London, and I know I could have done more to help him settle into the experience. Even so, it never felt like an obstacle. The space worked beautifully, the conversation flowed naturally, and it was a genuine pleasure getting to know him beyond the version of himself that exists online.
And if this experience taught me anything, it’s that travelling and creating work like this is something I want to keep doing. New cities, new faces, new stories… but always with the same intention: taking the time to look a little deeper.

For the first time, I felt completely aligned with the photographer I wanted to become. I started putting real intention into every part of the process: building mood boards, thinking about styling, creating a world around the images instead of simply showing up and shooting.
Working with Coco was incredible. She’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever had in front of my camera, and the whole experience felt effortless: creative, fluid, playful, and full of trust. The kind of collaboration where ideas bounce back and forth so naturally that time disappears.
Two years later, I’m still obsessed with the images we created together. More than that, I’m grateful for what that session represented. It became the foundation for so much of what came after, setting the direction for my work and giving me the confidence to pursue the kind of photography that truly felt like mine.
And honestly, I think it’s time: Coco, let’s make something new!

Over the years, we’ve done countless shoots together, usually leaning into that colourful chaos. But when she came to Berlin recently, I had a styling collaboration with Vintage Revivals and thought: what if I styled Louise for once?
Which is objectively funny. Styling a fashion designer with a very strong sense of self could easily end with them politely telling you to stop.
Instead, she was immediately on board.
I went in with a mood board that lived somewhere between Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and 70s Dolly Parton. After a lot of digging through racks, we somehow ended up with two monochrome looks: one black, one white. Pretty much the opposite of what Louise would normally wear.
The next day, we took them to the Regierungsviertel and started with the black look. Elegant, sharp, confident. Louise absolutely owned it.
The white look came later, when the golden light turned blue. I could tell she wasn’t exactly feeling the outfit, but somehow those images became some of my favourites from the shoot. Dreamy, slightly melancholic, gave me sunrise on a rooftop in Vegas kind of energy.
At this point we’ve shot together so many times that there’s a level of trust that makes everything easier. I know how to direct her, she knows when I’m about to ask her to do something ridiculous, and somehow it works.
Including posing in the middle of a very public location while boats full of tourists sailed past cheering her on.

I reached out to Tjark and Daniel, who had recently started dating. They jumped aboard enthusiastically.
We pulled together pieces from Vintage Revivals to style the shoot, scouted an edge-of-town location, and luckily landed one of the warmest spring days we’d had so far.
And then the shoot unfolded in a way I didn’t expect.
At first I tried directing tenderness. Then I realized the most beautiful moments were happening between my instructions.
So I stopped directing and I just watched.
What emerged was this familiar, beautiful eagerness that belongs firmly to the early phase of dating: when you can’t help being all over each other, when every glance carries hope, expectations, dreams. That stage that paints your eyes cartoonishly heart-shaped.
Capturing it in camera felt strangely personal because I was living something similar myself.
Then the second set.
The light dimmed, golden hour slipped into blue, and the mood gently shifted.
It began to feel less like the start of a story and more like a question: where is this journey leading us?
The images moved into something moodier, folkier, more cinematic.
Eagerness calmed into comfort. And comfort carried with it uncertainty.
Because beginnings are beautiful. They make you feel seen again, understood again, like your heart has reopened. But beginnings also bring fear up to the surface.
Fear of not being accepted in your entirety, in your authenticity. Fear of old wounds reopening. Fear of rejection. Fear of losing someone before you’ve even fully found them.
For me, this work became about that duality.
The joy and lightness of finding someone.
And the fragile uncertainty that always seems to stroll alongside it.

And honestly? I didn’t get it at first.
After Tangalle, it felt strangely familiar, like someone had taken a slice of Europe and dropped it into Sri Lanka. Trendy cafés, overpriced açaí bowls, young sunburnt Westerners moving around like extras in a surf campaign. Everyone looked cool. Nobody smiled. The beach was chaos: surfboards flying, people packed shoulder to shoulder, everyone chasing their own version of tropical freedom.
I stood there thinking: what the hell is this?
But somewhere between all that performance, the real moments kept slipping through.
Young monks laughing at my crop top in a tiny temple hidden off the road. Fishermen repairing nets beneath a sky too heavy for sunset. A tuk-tuk rolling past blasting Für Elise while selling greasy samosas. Rain drumming on the hostel roof at dawn. Open-air showers surrounded by jungle and wet earth.
Conversations about love after a bizarre yoga class. Watching monkeys that somehow seemed more at peace than most humans. Sitting on the balcony at night with the sea humming in the background, sharing silence with someone I’d only met the day before.
Maybe authenticity isn’t something a place gives you. Maybe it’s what appears when you stop chasing what everyone else came for.

While building the mood board, I embraced all of it. I pulled together references ranging from playful and provocative to refined and almost classically beautiful, sent them over to Nikolay, and he immediately said yes to the whole thing. At that point, I realized the shoot would probably reveal its own direction once we were actually in the room together.
And honestly, it did. The moment I met him, his Russian accent instantly reminded me of Ilya Rozanov from Heated Rivalry, which made the entire atmosphere feel strangely cinematic from the start. We styled the looks together, played around with different energies, and naturally slipped into every version of the character we had imagined. Some sets felt bold and manly, others playful and tongue-in-cheek, while one in particular carried this very classic, almost Dorian Gray-inspired elegance.
