I thought I was just visiting church with a friend - expecting a typical non-denominational service (minus the coffee, which I could’ve desperately used). Instead, I sat through nearly an hour centered around homosexuality as sin, how gay people can “100% transform themselves back to normal,” and why Christians should not celebrate Pride Month or gay marriages. 🤦🏽♀️
I understand traditional conservative theology. I do. This debate has existed for decades. That’s not even what this post is about.
What hit me so hard was hearing someone stand at a pulpit and tell people that being gay is something they should fight against, suppress or transform out of - framing it as sin instead of identity. I looked up every scripture he referenced. I understood the logic he was trying to build.
Still made my stomach turn.
I have a gay baby sister and a father who’s a pastor. Trust me: we have been through every inch of this. Ironically, this Latino pastor has a gay brother. I feel so sorry for him.
I celebrate love. I celebrate Pride Month. And I know for a fact my God loves every single person He created.
🙅🏽♀️The IDEA that someone can simply “transform” themselves out of being gay if they just pray hard enough feels incredibly dangerous to me - emotionally, mentally and spiritually. They can’t “wish” to not be gay any more than I can “wish” to have Afro hair. Ain’t happenin’.
🥺History has shown us where messages like this can lead: shame, rejection, self-hate, suicide, broken families. People feeling unworthy of love unless they become someone else.
By the end of the sermon, the room felt heavy. Depressed. Deflated. Even the worship team had to be coaxed back on stage.
This was no message of hope or love. It felt like anger. The world has enough hate. Stop trying to make your family members, of all people, become someone they’re not. ✌️ 💯
One thing I’ve grown to appreciate more as I get older: proximity matters. The people around you matter. Energy matters.
Also…seeing the actual FIFA World Cup trophy in person was pretty cool, too 😂
🏆 Did you know: the #FIFAWorldCup Trophy is pure 18 karat gold - worth over half a million dollars? Awesome to check it out today with some of my favs - and

More funness planned for tomorrow 🥰 Normally I like a chill, quiet weekend, but when I do get out - it’s for awesome stuff like this. What are you up to this weekend?
😍 One of the things I love the most about what I do is to get to play a key strategic role in my clients’ marketing and branding. I really pride myself in being considered a partner, a sounding board, a growth and visibility partner for each and every client. is one of the epic ones.
Not only is she drop-dead-modelesque-gorgeous and incredibly knowledgeable but she’s also a longtime friend! We know eachother from my YWCA Jr. Board days (back when we were the young professionals on the scene in Greenville, SC lol). Many of those young ladies are still good friends of mine to this day - but I never dreamed one would become a client!
🍀 How lucky am I to get to work with friends like this day in and day out? #blessed
Julia’s company - - has been a marvelous client of ours for several years now. I essentially function as her marketing + branding director, and my small but powerful team supports her company’s work year round. Her company’s based in the DFW area in TX - so we’re typically working remotely with eachother, but it was super cool to get to do this strategy session with her and her team in person. Looooove it.
👀 We’re particularly excited about her upcoming book!!!! If you work at an organization that needs to rethink their approach to company culture - you’re gonna want to follow her for more. Soooo exciting!!
Julia: you’re simply one of the very best. Kind. Thoughtful. Caring. Philanthropic. And a phenomenal speaker!! It is such a joy to get to work with you. It’s going to be so fun launching your new book soon! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
🎨 Last night, after finally getting to check out the MJ movie with my girl, I sat myself down to work on this project I thought of for my mom. A pic she often shares of her and her mom - my Grandma Esther. She says Uncle Andy took this pic of them at Deer Mountain - is that right mom? - and she said that white building structure is actually a part of the bridge they were on. She said we would see it this summer. Caaaannnn’t waaaaiiiiiit. ‼️‼️‼️
Note: it was my first time attempting to paint faces and I agonized over it until like 2am when I finally made myself call it quits. I wish I’d started that project earlier in the week to have more time with it, but my mom says she loves it (as she’s said about every creation I’ve ever had since the beginning of time) - but this is the first one that’s art of her and her mom. So…glad she doesn’t hate it loooool.
🍽️ Also, be very jealous sisters, since I got to hang out with mom and dad all day. Too bad you couldn’t be here! 🤓
No pics with my amazing grannie today - she was sleepy. But she’ll see my flowers when she wakes up. I did frame her painting I did for her awhile ago - “She Can Have a Coopie”! I’ll have to show that to her again sometime.
💐 Happy Mother’s Day all you mommas and mom figures! And especially to my cousins and friends going through their first Mother’s Day without their moms. My heart has been with you all day. 💗💗
And to be clear, I don’t necessarily mean freight trains are “bad people.” Some people are chronic freight trainers. Some people temporarily become one because they’re overwhelmed, emotionally flooded, under pressure, burnt out, dealing with health issues or just struggling emotionally in the moment. Human beings are complicated creatures.
But regardless of why it’s happening, one thing I’ve learned is this:
Nothing productive is happening once the freight train arrives. 💯
At one point, after dealing with enough of these interactions, I started wondering if I should take it personally. Like… what is it about me that keeps attracting freight train people??? But then I started learning more about the psychology behind this behavior and realized something important:
💡Freight trains actually have very little to do with you.
They usually have everything to do with whatever fear, discomfort, insecurity, criticism, accountability or emotional threat the conversation is bringing up for THEM.
That’s why freight train conversations feel so aggressive. The person isn’t really trying to have a conversation anymore. Their nervous system has shifted into fight-or-flight mode and a freight train is a form of FIGHT.
🚂 Overtalking. Interrupting. Escalating. Dominating the narrative. Pushing forward emotionally at full speed. And once somebody reaches that place, you start realizing: “Oh. This is no longer a conversation.” At that point, the healthiest thing you can usually do is disengage. Not because you’re “weak” or avoiding conflict, but because meaningful communication requires two emotionally available people and freight train mode only leaves room for one.
And honestly? If someone chronically defaults to freight train mode every time conflict or accountability enters the room, eventually you have to ask yourself whether that relationship is emotionally sustainable at all. Because after a while, who can survive constantly standing in the path of a freight train?
1. #AI is not a tool. It’s a whole team. Start treating it like one - assigning roles, giving context and expecting output the same way you would from a real team member.
2. Stop prompting AI. Start #buildingsystems it can run without you. If you’re repeating yourself, you’re the bottleneck. Build it once so it can execute on repeat.
3. #Series > single posts. People FOLLOW to see what happens next. This one’s actually from one of my favs - – regarding short form video (reels, shorts, TikToks, etc.): if you ever wanted to go viral / keep people hooked – try focusing on giving your audience a reason to come back. Make it EASY: Episodic, Anticipation Driven, Structured, Yields a Payoff
4. WebsiteTraffic is not your core KPI anymore. This came from the super brilliant Rand Fishkin - of: nearly 66% of searches now end without a click - your “homepage” is now the rented land of social, search and AI.
5. Claude is worth a shot. ChatGPT Codex = game changer. We’re moving from AI that helps you think… to AI that actually helps you do.
