I made How To Find Love in an Unbecoming Age during my final year at Calarts, and I just wanted to make something kinda stupid and fun about me & my friends experiences of being queer in LA.
The film follows Freya, a hopeless borderline incel lesbian, and her best friend, Francois, as they go about LA chatting about their dating lives and trying to find love.
I was living down in Echo Park when I made it & just having the best time with my friends going out and dating and exploring the city. I was also watching a lot of sex and the city which is a pretty obvious influence on the film. Every location is based on a real spot in LA and a lot of the conversations are either things my friends and I have said, or things we’ve overheard. Specifically canyon coffee is the best spot to overhear the most LA conversations of your life, excellent people watching there. I’m not living there right now but I love that city so much, so I’m glad I have this film as a kind of time-capsule of that period of my life.
