Don’t think visiting world-class museums, boating on the canals and exploring colorful neighborhoods by bicycle is reserved for the day time only, although there is certainly plenty to see when visiting the Dutch capital and exploring Amsterdam’s best attractions.

But as well as the vast array of daytime activities, Amsterdam is a fun city to explore when the sun goes down. Whether you wish to hop on a romantic canal cruise, sample local late-night snacks like stroopwafels and bitterballen, visit the infamous Red Light District, or dress to the nines and go clubbing, there is something for everyone when darkness falls upon the Dutch capital.

There are more than 1,700 bridges in Amsterdam. For comparison, that’s 1,300 more than there are in Venice! Many of these bridges can open to let tall ships pass. Around 80 of these bridges are located in the historic canal ring.
.
Amsterdam has long been called the “Venice of the North” because of its many canals and waterways. Teeming with quaint cafes and historic homes, trendy neighborhoods and unique attractions, there’s plenty to do and see.

Why is it called Amsterdam? The name “Amsterdam” was created in the 1200s by combining the words “Amstel” and “dam”. The city was named Amsterdam after a 13th-century dam in the Amstel River, along which the city is situated. Amsterdam’s convenient riverside location resulted in the city becoming a major trading hub, and the name has stuck ever since. Photo:

Discover the best restaurants in town: Impero Romano
The menu at Impero Romano is a perfect mix of entrees, salads, pasta’s, meat and fish dishes. The Buratta with cherry tomatoes and San Daniel ham makes for a perfect light starter before you head on to their specialty pasta. They bring the cheese to your table and prepare the pasta on the spot, which makes this dish an experience on itself! Another classic is the Saltimbocca: grilled Veal served with Parma ham and Sage. Rather go for seafood? Their Seabass in a salt crust is a favorite! The sommelier will advise you on the best wines to pair with the dishes, to make it a dinner (or lunch) you won’t soon forget.

Aperitivo Bar
Besides the restaurant, Impero Romano has an aperitivo bar area where they serve tasty cocktails and other beverages with Italian bites. A perfect spot to start before you head to your table for dinner or a place to end up with drinks after.
Impero Romano is open for both lunch and dinner, but make sure to reserve a tablebeforehand if you plan to go there on weekends. They’re often fully booked!
