Bans on trans health care are not just about health care. They’re about control.

Trans people deserve safety, dignity, and access to care.
When the government uses religion-based ideology to interfere in deeply personal medical decisions, everyone’s freedom is at risk.
That’s why trans rights are a church-state separation issue.

Book bans are not just about books.

They’re about power.

Many bans target stories about LGBTQ+ people, race, religion, reproductive freedom, and identities that challenge a narrow Christian Nationalist worldview.

When public schools remove books to satisfy one religious perspective, they send a dangerous message: some students’ lives and stories are unacceptable.

That’s why book bans are a church-state separation issue. The government should never use public schools to enforce religious beliefs or erase communities.

Social justice and church-state separation are connected.

When lawmakers and the government favor one religious and cultural identity as the “real” America, everyone else is pushed to the margins. The separation of church and state is the solution. It protects everyone's right to live as themselves and believe as they choose as long as they don't harm others.

Because freedom means equality WITHOUT exception.

Voting rights are about who has power.

Church-state separation is about making sure the government belongs to all of us — not just those who share the beliefs of the people in charge.

That’s one reason democracy and religious freedom are deeply connected. Democracy works best when all beliefs are treated equally.

BREAKING NEWS: Federal employees sue Trump administration over forced religion in the workplace, violations of church-state separation (read the statement at the link in our bio)

In response to the Trump administration’s excessive Christian Nationalism imposed on all Americans and on federal workers specifically, a group of federal employees and a union representing federal employees filed a new lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violating the separation of church and state and the religious freedom promised in our Constitution.

The lawsuit was filed by Americans United for Separation of Church and State,, and Bryan Schwartz Law on behalf of seven federal workers and the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) that represents 110,000 federal employees, including thousands of USDA workers.

“The Trump administration is waging a relentless and increasingly brazen crusade against church-state separation and the religious freedom of federal workers,” said Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United. “Trump is not Jesus, federal agencies are not churches, and cabinet secretaries are not government preachers. Secretary Rollins' Easter message is a particularly egregious example of Trump administration officials abusing the power of public office to impose their beliefs on others and promote one narrow view of Christianity. And it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Across the federal government, this administration has misused taxpayer resources to preach, hold government-sponsored prayer services during work time, and broadcast Christian Nationalism on official social media channels. Not on our watch.”

Project 2025 presents a challenge. At 900 pages and more than four pounds, the playbook is overwhelming and full of legalese and governmental jargon. The threat is vague and hard to connect to their personal lives and stories. We wanted to change that.

Liz and Gabe Rutan-Ram, a couple in TN, are unable to have biological children of their own. They identified a special needs child they hoped to foster and adopt. The state-funded agency that trains and certifies potential foster families, refused to work with Liz and Gabe because they are Jews. Liz and Gabe were unable to adopt that child and denied the joy of parenthood.

With help from Americans United, Liz and Gabe sued over this religious discrimination. Project 2025 targets lawsuits like theirs: “...the faith based adoption agencies that serve these children are under threat from lawsuits … due to their religious belief that a child should have a married mother and father.”

If Project 2025 is realized, religious freedom will become a license to discriminate and taxpayers will be forced to fund that discrimination. Potential parents will be rejected if they are what some consider to be the “wrong religion” or if they’re LGBTQ. Kids will be denied homes and families that don’t fit the Project 2025 mold of a “biblically based” family.

That’s just one tiny piece of this 900 page monster. But as Liz and Gabe said, “If Project 2025 can come for us, it can come for anyone.” Learn more at the link in our bio
