..I don’t perform anymore. Once I was a very talented ballet dancer, performing in competitions and touring across Europe. I loved the stage deeply, but my problem was always my body: I gained weight easily and lived on constant diets. Once, I even had to survive on fresh juices for three weeks just to urgently lose 10 kilos for an exam at Vaganova academy.
In 2019, while touring in Italy, I entered in a relationship with a man who made me feel beautiful and desired at any weight. For the first time, I let go, started eat what I want and love every inch of myself.
Then COVID came, performances stopped, and I chose to end my career. I spent years simply enjoying life, I never stood on pointe again, never did the splits, and finally my back and knees stopped hurting. But at night, I kept dreaming of the stage. I was waking up with a deep sadness, knowing I might never return to the barre and on the stage.
But few months ago, I had a crazy idea: just try. Without any expectation. But this time with love for myself and my body, without any restriction, diets and sacrifice.
For the past three months, I’ve been taking professional ballet classes again. I don’t know where this will lead me, but I already feel incredibly happy, especially when I receive messages from people saying I’ve inspired them to start or return to ballet. I think that there’s no such thing as a former dancer because the training we go through over the years leaves a mark on us forever. And in the end it truly is such a beautiful art🤍🩰
