One of the things I love most about Provence is stumbling across places like Ansouis.

Perched above the surrounding countryside, this beautiful village is often overshadowed by some of the region’s more famous names, yet it’s one of the places I most enjoy returning to.

The pleasure here isn’t ticking off attractions. It’s wandering the narrow lanes, admiring the stone houses, discovering hidden corners and simply slowing down for a while.

Ansouis also works beautifully as part of a slow travel day with nearby Lourmarin and Cucuron, three villages that each offer something quite different while being close enough to enjoy at a relaxed pace.

Have you discovered Ansouis?

Slow travel isn’t about seeing less. It’s about experiencing more.

It’s taking the quiet road instead of the fastest one. It’s lingering over a coffee in a village square, wandering down a side street simply because it looks interesting, and allowing time for unexpected discoveries.

Some of my favourite memories of Provence haven’t come from famous landmarks at all. They’ve come from small moments: a market stall, an old stone doorway, the sound of church bells, or a conversation with a local. Yes, please …

For me, slow travel means leaving room for those moments to happen.

How do you prefer to travel – slowly, or with a busy itinerary?

Just outside Apt, tucked among the vineyards of the Luberon, Château de Mille is one of those places that many people drive past without realising its remarkable history.

Records show the estate existed as early as 1238, making it one of the oldest wine estates in the region. Standing among the stone buildings, it’s easy to imagine the centuries of winemakers, farmers and travellers who have passed through here. There is a real sense of history woven into the landscape.

Today, Château de Mille is still a working vineyard, but it also welcomes the public for visits, tastings, exhibitions and cultural events. It’s a lovely place to slow down for an hour or two and discover a lesser-known side of Provence.

Have you ever stumbled across a place that felt like a hidden piece of history?

📸 👜 →→ There’s something rather special about Oppède-le-Vieux.

High above the Luberon valley, this old hilltop village was gradually abandoned over many decades as life moved downhill to the newer part of Oppède below. By the middle of the twentieth century, many of its stone houses stood empty and slowly fading into the landscape.

But artists, writers and restorers never entirely forgot it.

Today, Oppède-le-Vieux feels wonderfully alive again, while still holding onto its quiet soul. You wander through sunlit lanes, worn stone archways and old terraces overlooking olive groves and vineyards stretching across the valley below.

I loved this peaceful corner so much that I’ve now added the image as a framed print as well — a small piece of Provence to bring home.

There’s something about stumbling across a place like Mazette in Apt that feels wonderfully French.

Tucked onto a pretty little square, with vintage touches, local flavours, and a lively atmosphere, it seems to be exactly the kind of place people remember long after a trip to Provence.

The reviews speak of warm service, excellent bruschettas, fresh oysters, and a relaxed setting that feels both authentic and welcoming. It’s now firmly on my list for next time I’m in Apt.

Have you ever discovered a restaurant completely by accident that ended up becoming a favourite memory of your trip? I’d love to know 😋

→→📸 One of the things I love most about French markets is the way the seasons announce themselves so beautifully.

In spring, it’s asparagus everywhere — pale white spears, deep green stems and soft violet tips piled high across market stalls. Even the vegetables somehow feel artistic in France.

It’s the kind of detail that makes wandering through a village market feel less like shopping and more like part of the experience itself.

Have you ever discovered a food in France that somehow tasted completely different there?

I love arriving in Lourmarin early, before the day gathers momentum. That’s when I enjoy it most — when the light is still gentle on the stone façades, cafés are just setting up, and the village feels more like itself before the rhythm quickens.

April and October suit it beautifully too, when everything feels a little easier and more spacious. Of course, summer with the lavender is beautiful and the markets on Friday are super, but increasingly busy. Je préfère les moments plus calmes.

What I love is the balance. Lourmarin knows how to be lively, but it also rewards those quieter moments — an early walk, a slow coffee, a wander with no particular destination. There’s history in the architecture, confidence in the place, and a sense that life here has been unfolding in much the same way for a very long time.

Some villages impress you in passing. Others invite you to adjust your pace and stay a little longer than planned. Lourmarin always does that for me.

When would you choose to experience it — early morning, or in the softer months of the year?

I just loved this home in Oppede le Vieux. I could imagine living there for some time, relaxing and enjoying this beautiful village. Wandering the streets and watching the world go by…

Heaven!
Probably one of the most recognisable buildings in Antibes, the sweet little. So pretty ❤️🇫🇷
