Cut to in May of 2016 — We’re in Salt Lake City, and we’re showcasing our best-selling mixer, HEATH, married to collection of gorgeously sweet, flat florals, the most popular being a pattern we call Darling Starling. A vintage Butterick pattern inspired three form-fitting sundresses, beautifully constructed by and then we added maxi straw sun hats, white-washed record players and a garden of white-washed metal flowers to this picnic tableau. Flashback to May of 2017 in St. Louis when we created a booth dedicated to that season’s Ghastlie offering — and it took a Ghastlie global village! Ghastlie embroideries were created by both the designers’ mom (herself a dark mistress of embroidery!) and the talented while garments were confected by the lovely — her silhouettes playing so well with all the other eye candy in the booth, like the Ghastlie handbags that came all the way from Broadbridge Heath, West SUSSEX. A very gorgeous and Ghastlie Market IT WAS. ♠️♠️♠️

The artist with soul — We created our first Frida Kahlo pattern in 1997, long before she became the global cultural icon she is today. We were inspired to create our own original textiles utilizing Frida’s love for self portraiture, color and the traditions of Mexico. Though many of these designs have been more whimsical or playful in theme, Nicole De Leon’s L’Artista Con Alma panel takes a more serious look at the artist, beholding herself with paint brushes, surrounded by those motifs relevant to her loves, her losses and the physical and sometimes magical world around her.
At October Quilt Market in 2017 we raised a booth in homage to this great feminist hero, producing a photo montage of real-life images that created a patchwork of her story. We then invited appliqué artist and quilter, Alethea Ballard to create the booth’s centerpiece, adorning Nicole’s hand-painted portrait with her whimsical, “exhuberant appliqué” process, constructing a stunning quilt that evokes Frida’s narrative self portraits.

To Quilt Market 2012… We had just introduced our mustache pattern, FAVORITE STACHE — so in the studio we were in a Surrealist kind of mood — and we decided that an exciting way to showcase the new FASHION For HOME design additions would be to upholster a series of chairs in the new collection and create a slightly absurdist, tangled tower of chair and pattern! We created the plan in Los Angeles and then once on the exhibitor floor, the display demanded patience and a dedication to balance from both Phillip and to bring the tower to LIFE. The chairs were placed one on top of the other, locking themselves into an eye-catching pyramid of home dec pattern.
