I used the Profoto B10x plus together with the white tele zoom reflector as a key and another Profoto B10x plus in a medium reflective umbrella with diffusor to create a hard light soft light sandwich that I love so much. I get both drama and also shadow detail by using both light qualities.
Lastly I left my modeling light run on the key light while I dragged the shutter while moving my camera to add a dynamic element of movement.
The result is a sophisticated light quality that brings out the models aura, power and strength within.

I set out to the desert, but don’t be fooled. It was just a 30 second walk from car to these rocks. The hard part? The heat. Well over 100% out at this time of day. The model, videographer and BTS photographer and I set up in the midst of a flow up people also walking up for the sunset. From the very first test shot, I stopped to look at my laptop screen. I was like whoah. we all agreed “this looks edited already!” There was mix of dimension yet flattering light on the model. It’s not just hard light. It’s smoother hard light. I experimented with different angles of the light and chin but for the most part kept it above her eyes for more drama.
In the end it was an honor to work with Profoto on this shoot. The only strobe company I have ever used. I’ve accumulated a decently sized kit of strobes and modifiers from them over years and I can tell already this one will get heavy use because I LOVE hard light. And hard light just got better.
