He put me on skis at 2 years old and spent my entire childhood hauling me around the Northwest for ski racing. He gave so much of himself to keep the dream alive, early mornings, long drives, loading gear in the dark, and standing in the cold just to see me take a few runs. He never asked for thanks, never made it about him. He just showed up, day after day, because he believed in me, even when I was too young to understand it.
He pushed me, supported me, and somehow did it all in a way that never burned me out. He showed me the beauty of skiing, not just the competition side, but the freedom, the joy, and the lifestyle that can come with it.
I wouldn’t be doing what I love today if it weren’t for the way he instilled that passion early on.
So to stand on top of a mountain with him, to be the one guiding him this time, was overwhelming in the best way. A flood of memories came rushing in… the early mornings, the late nights waxing skis, all the quiet sacrifices he made to get me to the start gate as a kid.
