Samar one of my closest birding buddies and I had been talking about hitting Keoladeo during winter for ages. But every time, something or the other came up at home and our annual ritual got postponed. Finally, last week we just said enough is enough and planned a quick two day trip.
Meanwhile, Samar had checked with his local contacts about this season’s migratory birds. The feedback wasn’t super encouraging, but we figured we’d go anyway at least get out after such a long gap and enjoy ourselves.
Then came the big dilemma: should I take my photography gear or not? The photographer inside me was screaming, “Are you mad? It’s a birding trip pack the camera, full stop!” But the pure birder side was whispering, “Just take the binoculars this time experience Keoladeo fresh, no pressure about ISO, exposure, metering or sharpness.”
Honestly, it turned out to be one of the best decisions. I felt so much more connected to nature watching the birds’ plumage, their little behaviours and quirks things I used to completely miss while busy with composition, EXIF settings, and chimping away.
Just wanted to share this with my fellow birders. Once in a while, try leaving the camera behind.
Trust me, you’ll love the feeling!!!
