Beautifully proportioned with sculpted teak backs, refined peg-joined detailing and the quality and skill that defines all of Hvidt & Mølgaard’s work. These are chairs designed by master craftsmen, where structure, material and form are in perfect balance.
Fully restored in our studio - stripped back to the frames, teak carefully revived, and reupholstered in a midnight blue wool tweed by Camira. The seats are firm, supportive and made for everyday use.
Elegant, architectural and timeless.

We have a vintage run of 606 shelving in our studio at home, and I’ve lived with it long enough to properly appreciate just how good it is. This particular set comes from a much larger installation removed from an architect’s firm. We bought the system as a whole, kept part of it for upstairs in the store workshop, and this is part of what remains.
What I love most is how practical and versatile it is, the whole thing reconfigures in minutes totally changing the proportions so I’m never bored with it. Nothing is fixed and it doesn’t feel too precious - it just works really well, wherever you put it.
For me, it’s the epitome of cool… smart, understated, and genuinely designed to last a lifetime.
This set is available and can be viewed in store.
Thank you for supporting a small, creative business like mine. Behind everything we put out - every chair rebuilt from the frame up, every midcentury piece sourced, every little object chosen for the shop - is real work done with care. It’s me, and Emily with her photos, Marcus giving advice at the kitchen table, the kids helping at events, and all of you who come into the shop, message, share, collect, or simply visit to look.
I started this on my own years ago, not knowing if anyone would connect with what I was trying to build. Now it’s become a proper community - designers, locals, collectors, friends, and people who just love good design and things made well. I don’t take any of it for granted.
So thank you, truly, for being part of this year. For the conversations, the projects, the trust, and the enthusiasm for the pieces we bring in. I can’t wait to show you what’s coming in the new year, there’s a lot we’re working on quietly in the background, and I’m excited for it.
Wishing you a calm, happy Christmas and a really good start to 2026.

I promise there’s not a novelty record in sight. Just good music, a relaxed space, and we’ll even wrap your chosen gifts for you.
These are the last cushions I’ll be making before Christmas. Each one is made using offcuts from this year’s upholstery projects - fabrics cut into one-off patterns to make use of the smaller pieces we have left. Because of that, every cushion is completely individual.
Rather than photographing them individually, they’re shown together as a collection. You’re very welcome to come in and see them in person, or buy online and let us know which cushion you’d like us to hold for you.
If you’re shopping online, you can choose ‘collect in store’ at checkout and we’ll have your order wrapped and ready for you to collect.

A Fold of Chairs: the soundtrack.
The sounds of our working upholstery studio in celebration of #HertsOpenStudios.
My journey with mid-century design began 20 years ago, when Marcus and I would snap up the mis spelt midcentury listings on eBay. After beginning a career in marketing and spending time raising our four children, I retrained as a traditional upholsterer. However, it was the modern design elements that truly captivated me, leading me to reupholster every mid-century piece I could find.
I started the business from my garage nearly 5 years ago, launching an online shop to share my passion with others. Before long, things quickly grew, and I began to dream of opening a physical studio. When I came across our beautiful shopfront on London road - one of St Albans’ original spaces with stunning stained glass windows - I knew it was the perfect location.
With a huge amount of support from my husband and children from delivering stock to designing posters and manning the shop, we opened our doors last November. Since then, it’s been an extraordinary year, filled with both challenges and achievements. And a lot of googling ‘how do you run a shop?!’
From the overwhelming support of fellow shop owners to the trust and loyalty of our wonderful customers, we’ve had the privilege of working on some of the most stunning chairs and restoring cherished pieces that mean the world to their owners.
As we celebrate our first birthday, l’m excited for the future of A Fold of Chairs and the creative community that has blossomed around it. There are exciting projects on the horizon, and I look forward to what the next chapter holds. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
It’s been a day full of the loveliest conversations.
