I happen to love mustard on my French fries, and I got excited when seeing a bright yellow squeeze bottle at a little cafe in Curaçao.
Until I squeezed it.
Just when you forgot you were technically in the Netherlands…
Confession — my husband and I chose to start our four-week Caribbean trip in #curacao because we could fly there via long-haul business class on KLM and add two more KLM houses to our collection.
BUT! That might be why we initially came here, but we were BLOWN AWAY by what the island had to offer! We absolutely fell in love with Curaçao and can’t wait to return.
Curaçao is SO wonderfully chilled out, it’s the perfect size (one hour to drive from capital Willemstad to the beaches of the far west), it’s not overdeveloped at all, everything is so colorful, driving is safe and easy, and the water is so clear, blue, and bright.
Some of the highlights from our five-day visit:
🏝️ Beaches on the far west of the island (my favorite: Playa Lagún)
🎨 One of the best cities in the Caribbean is colorful Willemstad
⛱️ A chilled out day at beach club
🛥️ A fun boat trip to the tiny island of Klein Curaçao with
🌊 Crashing waves at Shete Boka National Park
🎇 Fireworks in Willemstad on Thursday nights for Punda Vibes
🦎 Iguanas EVERYWHERE. They’re huge and all over the island!
And you know what? In addition to direct flights from Amsterdam (tons of them!), you can fly to Curaçao from Miami, Chicago, New York, Toronto, and several more destinations in North America and the Caribbean.
I loved my time here!

Here’s a collection of my favorite islands in the world. And for the most part, they’re very different from each other.
From riding a bike through vineyards in Korčula to riding a scooter past caper bushes in Salina, from taking selfies with quokkas on Rottnest Island to taking selfies with penguins on Culverville Island, from admiring the sunsets in Koh Lanta and Boracay to getting away from the world on Vis and Little Corn Island, here are my favorites.
Do you like any of these?
I’d love to hear yours.

This October, and I did a long weekend trip to the Piemonte region in Italy.
And if you love fall colors and cozy vibes, this is an amazing place to visit!
You can enjoy white truffle season (!!), deliciously hyper-local dishes, elegant wines, and beautiful fall colors in every direction.
It’s far less crowded than the summer months, and its rare to see kids, as they’re in school.
Overall, a very chill and relaxing place to spend a foodie weekend in Italy.
Some of the highlights:
🍷 Wine and chocolate tasting at near Monforte d’Alba
🧀 Cheese tasting at in Bra
🍄🟫 Alba White Truffle Fair
🍝 Dinners at in Monforte d’Alba and Le Torri in Castiglione Falletto
🥓 Tagliere and wine at in Biella

What to do in Piemonte Italy | Where to go in Italy in October
I often help out my friends and family who don’t fly super often, showing them what would be best to book. And almost every time, they say, “Isn’t an hour enough?” For a layover.
Is it enough??? Maybe if your next flight is in the gate and literally everything goes right.
But I’ve been burned before. So now I allow a layover of two hours for simple transfers and three hours for anything more complicated. What is complicated? I go into it in the post.

When I was planning my big trip to Madagascar, I decided to spend a few days each in #Mauritius and Réunion. Why not? These islands are so far from everywhere else!
My plan was to do a three-day taster in each destination and see if I wanted to come back for more.
Mauritius? I’m good.
I booked a few private tours (so cheap at €83 each!) and saw several cool sights in the southwest and north of the country. And they were cool places.
But Mauritius and I didn’t really gel, and I go into why in the video.
The result? Three days was fine. No need to return!
I view this as a successful trip, because it showed me more of what I don’t want. Mauritius is a great fit for people who love things cheap and shabby, can’t handle spicy food, and are skilled at driving on the left. That’s not me.
Did you visit anywhere that was a bit meh?

Three days in Mauritius | Is Mauritius worth it?
I just got back from the most amazing trip to Madagascar on a tour with. This is the most adventurous trip I have had in quite some time!
Madagascar is not an easy place to travel. I only recommend it to people who are good-natured, flexible, and enjoy the long, bumpy, dirty drives with an occasional bush pee.
If that’s you, you will be rewarded with a stunning country home to the warmest people — a place where overtourism doesn’t even exist.
My favorite experiences were taking a boat down the Tsiribihina River for three days, hiking in the Grand Tsingy’s stone forest, snorkeling with enormous sea turtles in Nosy Sakatia, seeing so many lemurs, and just meeting people, getting to know them, sometimes dancing a bit or meeting a baby who had been born that morning!
I chose to visit Madagascar on a group tour — and wow, was choosing, a small Africa tour company, the best decision I could make.
This was one of the best trips of my life. Our guide, company owner and fellow travel blogger Helen, was amazing and built such a great trip for us!
I am already picking out my next tour for 2026. And I have a discount code for you! Use the code KATE100 and you can get 100 GBP off any Africa tour with Rock My Adventure!
Comment “tour” and I’ll DM you a link to the Madagascar tour for next year, which JUST went live on the website!

One of my favorite subjects to nerd out on is the Irish Potato Famine. But most people don’t know the true story about why so many people died.
And when you take a minute to look closely, there are so many similarities to what is happening in Gaza today.
Ceasefire immediately and permanently.
Bring humanitarian aid in.
Release all hostages.
We must end this madness. Free Palestine.
The best place I stayed on my monthlong Sputh America honeymoon was definitely Ecocamp Patagonia in Torres del Paine, Chile.
This is a sustainable resort that actually walks the walk — for starters, they’ve been carbon-neutral since 2008 (!!), they have a sophisticated soil filtration system, they buy from their neighbors, and they invest in protecting the national park.
And they were the first dome resort in the world!!
Every day, you get to choose from three excursions, and at least one is always easy. I did two easy excursions (boat trip on Lake Grey and a low-key flora and fauna hike), as well as the most challenging excursion they offer (hiking to The Towers).
Every dinner has three courses, and a vegetarian, vegan, and omnivore option for each course. Lunch is 100% vegetarian and mostly vegan. So if you’re plant-based, you will love it here.
Comment “ecocamp” and I’ll email you my full blog post reviewing the experience — much more than a 90-second reel can tell you!
Ecocamp comped us for three nights and we paid for a fourth night out of pocket.

Here’s a story about something that happened to me last month in Athens. Charlie and I were heading back to our room after breakfast to find the door open and the cleaner inside — as well as a random 60-something American lady who claimed she “just wanted to see the layout.”
WTF?!
What would you do? The video tells the story of what I did.
