Currently procrastinating by looking back at old pictures of my travels when I should be studying for the exams 📚

#digitalnomad #travelgirls #girlsabroad #travel #remotework
this might spark some discussion, but… 👇🏽

I lived the digital nomad lifestyle for 3,5 years

👩🏼‍💻and I met a lot of other remote workers too

but I also met lots of people who weren’t working online

who told me I was “living the dream” and that I “must not have a care in the world”

or - my personal favourite -

that I “never needed vacation because my whole life is a vacation already”

🙅🏼‍♀️ don’t get me wrong, my life is great!

and I’m incredibly priviliged to be able to work online and travel all the time

but it’s not all sunshine and fun times

😴 I rarely sleep in, because it’s a regular work day.

⏰ in fact, when I’m in the Americas, I get up between 4am and 6am to deal with the time difference

⭐️ and when I’m in Asia, I usually work until late at night to stay in European office hours

☀️yes, the weather is often nice where I am. But I don’t get to enjoy it every minute of every day

🙏🏼 I still work about 30-40 hours per week, 8 hours per day.

🌴working on the beach or at the pool? No way, I cannot see my screen.

🛜 don’t even get me started on stressing about wifi ALL the time. On the road, in cafes, at my new temporary home…

🌍 a quick trip to the supermarket or fixing your broken phone charger? If you don’t know a place, it might take you hours.

😔 I also miss my family and friends a lot when I’m away

🏠 and I miss having my own space, instead of moving between hotelrooms and airbnbs.

Again, I don’t wanna be ungrateful because it’s been an amazing adventure 🤍

But it’s not the “2 hour workweek at the pool while earning an easy 10K a month” life social media tells you it is 😚

I will always loooove solo travel for this exact reason!

thanks for the reel idea!

On the road for 3,5 years but now it’s time to change the pace. From backpacking to digital nomad life to slow travel to… settling down! 🤍

How long have you been on the road? 🚗

#digitalnomad #slowtravel #solotrip #solotravel #backpacking
cannot believe we got to travel the world together 🫶🏼

Who is this person for you?

#digitalnomad #digitalnomadgirls #digitalnomadlife #girlsabroad #digitalnomadlifestyle
This is what I would tell myself 👇🏽

1. Don’t stress about the flight. Research if you need a visa, take your passport with you and be on time. The rest usually sorts itself out.

2. Don’t plan too much ahead of time or booking things with cancellation. You might want to change your plans because of people you meet.

3. Hostels with activities are the best place to stay if you’re scared you’ll feel alone. Join a walking tour or cooking class and make friends!

4. Take pictures, not only of the beautiful views, but also of the mundane things: your hostel dorm, your breakfast, that one spot you go to read.

5. Slow down. It’s all super exciting in the beginning, but after a few weeks or months, you’ll experience fatigue. It’s okay to stay in the same place for longer and do nothing.

6. And on that note: book a private room every once in a while! Dorms are fun but exhausting and you need alone time.

7. Don’t skip a place just because one person said it’s not worth it. Research, see if you like it and go if you think you do.

8. Pack as light as you can. You will want to shop after weeks of wearing the same thing over and over again.

9. Update your friends regularly. You might be living your best life, but their life goes on as wel. They won’t check on your adventures every day. Be the one who puts in effort to stay in touch.

10. And finally, you can always, ALWAYS, buy a ticket home. It’s okay if that’s earlier than you thought it would be.

Any additions? 🩷

How many of these have you visited? 🤔
and which are still on your bucketlist? 😍

name a place you cannot wait to return to, I’ll go first 🤍
Padar Island 🤍

During our sailing trip from Flores to Lombok, through Komodo National Park, we also visited Padar Island. We woke up super early, climbed the viewpoint of this island to watch the sunrise, and then we stuck around to take lots of pictures 📸

I knew this spot from Instagram, but I didn’t know what it was called and I didn’t know I was going there. Only when I reached the top of the viewpoint and I looked back, did I realise where I was!

Have you seen this place before online? Or have you been here yourself?
