The beach vibes and good times are what this venue offers, with beautiful décor and a large, delicious menu to choose from.
Step into summer heaven at the beautifully decorated beach bar, a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Take your kids with you – they even have a helicopter on site! 😉
The venue is bathed in beautifully natural lighting and has an extensive open space.
We were so spoilt for choice with the menu, but we eventually decided to try the hotdog with mac and cheese and a deep-fried pickle (which was surprisingly delicious).
We also had the steak and onion wrap, which arrived with skin-on fries.
To wash it all down, we had caramel lattes, and the coffee was the best we’ve had all week!
The service was excellent. The staff not only delivered amazing service but were also on hand to advise us with menu choices and recommendations.

🚗 We parked in a small car park just at the side of the Saw Mill. The access road to the forest of Birse was closed to cars when we visited. It can be found at: What3words- ///jumpy.unfocused.unfilled
🥾 From the small parking area, we walked what would be just shy of about half a mile and crossed a small wooden bridge. From there, we followed a well established path on a slightly muddy/grassy root alongside the Water of Feugh. We followed this until we came to the Bucket Mill and had a little look around. We then headed back towards the Saw Mill along the main road you can see from the Bucket Mill until we arrived back at the car. You could make this walk longer by following one of the forest trails here.
🤤 We visited Finzean Farm Shop for some coffee and cakes to enjoy before heading on our walk.
🏴 The 3 mills here all date from around the 1820s to the 1850s. There is the Saw Mill, the Turning Mill and the Bucket Mill. These mills are the only ones of their kind to survive anywhere in Scotland and are Grade A listed buildings, looked after by the Birse Community Trust.

This is a new spot and it’s offering a unique experience where you can sip on coffee or wine while enjoying spending time with your friends or family. It’s also a spot to enjoy some beautiful artwork that you can purchase.
We stopped by for breakfast, where we had waffles, bacon, and syrup with a delicious hot caramel latte.
They cater for breakfast, lunch and also have an evening selection of charcuterie boards along with pastries to enjoy throughout the day, which we will be sure to try next time we visit.
It’s also affordable, and we found the sizing very good and filling.
The interior is also very beautiful to the eye, and there are lots of hidden quirks. One that I really liked was the lampshade made from a kettle! It’s one of those spots where every time you look around you will spot something else you didn’t see the first time around.
Overall, I think this is a welcoming and warm addition to Banchory, and we wish it the best going forward - as we can’t wait to return to try the wine menu. 🍷

🚙 There’s a small car park there which costs £3.50. It’s about 7 miles to the loch and back from the carpark which took us around 3.5 hours with a 7 and an 11 year old and having a wee nosey around the bothy.
🥾 The walk is mostly flat from the car park to the loch with nothing too strenuous, it is a bit uneven and rocky but overall fine.
🤤 So many lovely places to eat that aren’t too far away but as we were driving from Aberdeen we stopped in past one of our favourite places

Parking is limited, and the walk down can be tricky, especially in wet conditions. So, aim to go when it’s dry so that the paths are easily accessible. Care is definitely needed here!
Once you reach the waterfall, you’ll instantly see two small swimming areas that you can easily access. Take a refreshing swim and enjoy the beauty of nature at its finest.

Located between St Cyrus and Johnshaven on the A92. Park carefully on the bridge, and avoid the driveway, that is private property so please be respectful.

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the slow, cosy moments together. We’ve enjoyed the extended break, savouring small joys like local walks, coffee spots, and catching up after Christmas.
Schools are off for the rest of the week, and it’s been lovely having Rosie and Lyall at home. Even though I’ve been working night shifts and trying to keep the house together while also getting plenty of sleep, it’s been the worst week possible to pick up over time. 😆

A beautiful short walk in the snow. It’s often a very busy location in Aberdeenshire, filled with tourists and local visitors. So, it was exciting to see it still with no one else going about.

We are loving the snow, and as much as Christmas is over, it’s giving us Christmas vibes all over again.
We adventured out over the weekend to a walk we haven’t done in what feels like forever - Pitfour Lake.
This is a very easy walk; it’s flat, has lots of wildlife, and it’s fun for the kids to enjoy.
You will be sure to see lots of swans, and over the warmer months, lots of baby swans too!
This is a short walk around the lake, and it has some lovely pits to stop at, as well as benches, the cutest little hut, and pier to really enjoy the views.
Not only that, but it has some really cool ruins that are always interesting to see.
