Pauline Mauruschat (lives and works in Bochum) is a multidisciplinary artist whose dreamlike worlds unfold through painting, sculpture, jewellery, and printmaking. Living with her partner and two young daughters in Bochum, Germany, she creates from a small studio near her home, where art becomes both a personal refuge and a means of connection.
Drawing on recurring motifs of animals, plants, and nature—particularly horses—Mauruschat’s works weave together surreal imagery, intricate ornamentation, and luminous colour. Influenced by the perspective of her inner child, her paintings balance tenderness and unease, exploring themes of motherhood, loneliness, healing, and belonging.
Working primarily with watercolour, coloured pencil, and layered textures, she embraces the medium’s unpredictability to create blooming, mural-like compositions populated by flying horses, double-sided tigers, demonic dogs, and radiant flora. For Mauruschat, art is an act of catharsis: a way to nurture the security and care her younger self once lacked. Having long helped her navigate depression, creative practice remains a source of resilience—one that she hopes may also offer comfort, connection, and healing to others.
