Watching countless films as a festival judge (being an actor and filmmaker myself) keeps reminding me about the heart and soul of storytelling — how the stories touch and influence an audience. It makes me experience first hand what lands and which films may remain below their potential.

Als Festivaljurorin immer wieder viele Filme anzuschauen, während ich selbst Schauspielerin und Filmemacherin bin, erinnert mich jedes Mal aufs Neue an das Herz und den Kern des Geschichtenerzählens — was die Filme mit dem Publikum machen. Ich sehe dabei, was funktioniert und nachhallt — und auch, welche Filme unter ihrem eigentlichen Potenzial zurückbleiben.

Ich wurde inzwischen schon mehrfach eingeladen, Jurorin bei Filmfestivals zu sein — das erste Mal 2018. Und jedes einzelne Mal hat es mir geholfen, mein eigenes Handwerk weiterzuentwickeln und hoffentlich etwas zu der Kunst des Geschichtenerzählers beizutragen, die ich liebe.

I got to be a part of the pre-selection jury for Go Mental! Film Festival Berlin two years in a row now and I enjoyed that process so much. I got to watch inspiring films and expand my own filmmaking muscles by seeing what makes other films stand out and truly touch an audience. For several years now I got to give my voice to the German version of the Female Barbarian in DIABLO IV - one of the lead roles.
Now Diablo IV Lord of Hatred is released for which I got to return to this very cool character! I hope I get to come back to it time and time again.
When I got this job I remember jumping around my tiny apartment in Cologne (where I was living at the time) in endless joy. Years later I still LOVE that I get to do this for a living!

📽️ Die Diskussion um die Definition von Genre ist dabei fast schon so alt wie das Kino selbst. Trotzdem haben sich gewisse Muster herausgebildet: Das können wiederkehrende oder stilisierte Themen, Motive oder Erzählmuster sein, aber durchaus auch Strategien der bildlichen Übertreibung.
🎞️ Da es diese Filme im Vergleich zu konventionellen Ansätzen im deutschen Förderdschungel und auch in der Auswertung oft recht schwer haben, reifte der Gedanke, ein Programm zusammenzustellen, das sich explizit diesen Kurzfilmen annimmt und dabei beweist, wie viel Spaß sächsisches Kurzfilmschaffen unter der Genrelupe macht.
🏆 Die Filme wurden bei der Ausschreibung für die klassischen »Sächsischen Shorts« unter 50 Einreichungen ausgewählt und vom film.land.sachsen-Team kuratiert, darunter übrigens auch der gerade beim mit gleich drei Preisen ausgezeichnete » Blob und der Wolf«.

In 2026 I got to write a pilot episode for a new German crime series. I started in late 2025 and got the big YES to the script from the production company a few days ago.
Being a commissioned writer in this capacity was new for me & brought some beautiful insights I could not have gained from working on my own projects exclusively! Some were:
— I can be in a writing flow AND meet story points predetermined by another creative
— working on someone else’s project AND still showing up for my acting and filmmaking projects WORKS (up until the last few days before a deadline!)
— my acting benefits greatly from my writing for film and tv
— I love a good structure so I can flow more freely which turned out to be extra helpful this time around since it allowed me to discuss details with producers and creators very specifically & incorporate changes with ease
— writing takes energy, time and inspiration (duh, I know) BUT writing for people who respect you and who want what’s best for the script is so much easier (this team was GOLD!)

This opportunity taught me A LOT & I can’t wait to share this beauty with the world!
.
I’m already knee deep into the next adventures — as an ACTOR I am auditioning with joy and depth; as a FILMMAKER I am developing a comedy series about my home region in Germany, writing a deep and raw family drama for which I got funding (yeah!) and working on the script for my feature film „Tickets Please“ (a father-daughter heist film; our short film & proof of concept is about to finish its kick a** festival circuit soon) with beautiful soul & amazing co-writer!

Ever since the year started I feel like endless opportunities and chances keep finding me — and I consider it my job to stay grounded and centered amidst the beautiful adventures approaching & to stay true to myself and the characters in and visions of the projects I get to work on.
.
Towards the end of last year I was over the moon to find out that I had been chosen to receive funding to write a feature film. (More on that baby soon, it needs its own post, trust me!)
I was in Portugal at the time, enjoying sunsets with one of my best friends. I celebrated and was already excited for 2026. Then the year started and suddenly more wishes came true. And before I dive into specifics for each journey and project I’m working on right now I wanted to give you a feel for the overall situation. So here’s what happened in 2026 so far…
As an actor —
I got to audition & tape for several German and international productions already (my American accent coach helped me with some of them, true hero!)
I got pinned for roles and submitted for great things by my wonderful agent and manager
As a voice actor —
I got to be in the studio several times already, giving my voice to a big production that has not been officially announced yet.
As a filmmaker —
I got to attend more events at Berlinale than ever before (and feeling at home as I did!)
I had meetings with creatives whose work I admire (screenwriters, editors, fellow directors, …) and talk specifics ab. projects and collaborations
I was commissioned to write the pilot episode of a new series (a dream come true)
I revised the pitch deck for one of my dearest personal projects & got to have a meeting with a potential partner for it already (that babe has a newsletter, more on that soon)
I celebrated another award for my short film & proof of concept „Tickets Please“, this time from India.
I started working on the feature film I got funding for.

I needed some time to put my finger on WHY this year’s Berlinale felt so different. Then it hit me: it felt different because it was easy. So easy! I walked into rooms knowing I’d meet interesting people. I entered spaces where I was sure I’d see familiar faces and I was eager to catch up with industry contacts. During the first few years at this wild, very cold (temperature wise) and sometimes overwhelming film festival my nervous system worked hard after every event and meeting. This year I realized I walked into rooms with a quiet confidence — I knew how to talk about my work, my acting and filmmaking. I knew whom I wanted to meet and that I could trust my gut when I wanted to lovingly end a conversation that felt draining.And as soon as I allowed for the experience to be filled with ease and joy, more doors opened. Without the pressure I got introduced to amazing people, got to catch up with filmmakers I adore and even got some input for possible future projects and collaborations. Thank you, Past-Marie, for making the effort and moving through the stickiness of getting used to this beautiful madness that is Berlinale. And thank you to the film industry for making me feel so at home. Thank you to every single organizer who invited me to join their events, to every panelist and to every person who inspired me, shared their wisdom or introduced me to another great artist. Love ya! See you in 2027.

And let me just say that NOTHING about the Berlinale 2026 felt „apolitical“ to me. In every conversation, every panel and each and every encounter I could sense how all of us were very aware of the extraordinarily political times we live in.
And it being not just an A-List festival, but a GERMAN A-List festival somewhat adds an extra layer of awareness for what is going on outside of the film bubble. (Check out the pinned comment for the rest of the text!)
