1. Let them choose their own potty
Giving them ownership from the start makes such a difference and helps with acceptance of the potty.
2. Make day one feel exciting
We’re doing potty-themed gifts like books, a Tonie character & sticker charts to build positive associations. These can also be used as distractions to encourage longer sitting time.
3. Reward every wee
A little reward box is a big motivation in those early days.
4. Have a special poo reward
Because let’s be honest… poos are a whole different level 😅
5. Multiple potty stations around the house
Easy access equals fewer accidents and less stress.
6. Ditch daytime nappies from day 1
Going “all in” helps avoid confusion.

Before we rush to prop babies into sitting, it’s important to look for the foundational skills that make sitting safe, stable, and functional 💕
Some signs your baby may be getting ready for upright sitting:
💕 Good head control with minimal wobbling
💕 Strong tummy time skills and pushing up through arms
💕 Rolling confidently and building trunk strength
💕 Briefly using hands to play while supported sitting
💕 Starting to catch themselves with their hands (“tripod sitting”)
💕 Trying to move in and out of positions independently
Sitting is a motor milestone, not just a position to place babies in. The goal isn’t to make babies sit earlier, but to support the skills that help them get there naturally.
The best way to develop this skill is to build foundation strength- avoid placing baby into sitting “containers” e.g. bumbo seats, walkers, etc.

When babies reach that stage of wanting to walk around but they still need handheld support, it can be very straining on your back. It’s easy to hold baby’s hands above their head level so that it’s more comfortable for you; BUT this makes it much more difficult for baby to find their stability and develop normal walking patterns.
Babies’ hands need to be in front of them around the level of their waist for optimal positioning and stability, and to allow them to develop their balance and weight shifting for later independent walking.
Try using a hula hoop to give them stability and support while allowing you to stand upright and protect your back 🤸🏼♀️⭕️
