👋🏼 New year, new introduction.

For those who are new here, hi! I’m Jessica, and I’m the mouth behind Let Her Drink Wine. I currently live in beautiful Wilmington, NC with my fiancé 💍 Evan and our cat 🐱 KK, and I’m living my best beach life.

2026 started off with a bang (flu-rona took me out for 2 weeks 🤧) but sorry, world, can’t get rid of me that easily. Now that I’m recovered, I wanted to share some facts about myself!

1. If you can’t tell by the name of the page, I love #wine 🍷, especially big, bold reds. My goal this year is try some new varietals and to push the boundaries of my taste buds a bit — any suggestions?

2. My favorite wine event each year is easily World Malbec Day, and Evan and I drive up to DC to participate because it is wholly worth it. See you later this year!

3. For my full-time job, I’m a college admissions advisor. But I also write for an animal website, and I run my own rare disease-focused website as a passion project to amplify rare disease awareness. I’m partnering with World Orphan Drug Congress in Boston this year!

4. I’m writing a poetry chapbook that, if I finally have enough confidence in myself, I hope to self-publish later this year.

5. I’m getting married in August!!! We’re getting married in NJ at because Evan and I are both from NJ originally, and wanted to make it easier for our friends and family. We loved Bogey’s and can’t wait to start the next chapter of our life there (and then maybe buy a house in Wilmy?! 😜)

So great to continue connecting with all y’all, and I can’t wait to see what 2026 brings!
We were so excited for to open down the street from us!! Since we moved, Evan and I have been really looking for our spot.
Now, The Sounder is a 1 minute drive (maybe) and we loved it.

TV setup and cocktail options were phenomenal, but we also loved the food. I have the stomach capacity of a small bird, so the dozen oysters we ordered + part of my shrimp pasta 🍝 dish filled me up — but Ev also got steak, which they delivered at perfect medium rare.

Cocktail list was great — bone marrow washed whiskey was very interesting, but I also enjoyed the martini 🍸

Regardless, looking forward to oyster, martini, and football nights moving forward!
Spritz season is a mindset — it never ends ✨

So, of course, I had to enjoy an spritz at! Although I had a wonderful time having a coffee or two first, a spritz was necessary — especially after I found out exciting news for 2026!

For those of you who don’t know, I run as a passion project to amplify the voices of the rare disease community. It’s a cause really close to my heart — and I just signed a *huge* partnership today. Details to come soon, but this partnership is going to contribute to sharing the over 30 stories I published this year, and the many more I hope to publish in 2026.

Cheers to that! 🤩
I love a speakeasy, and I love a fantastic savory craft cocktail even more. So when we stopped by Wilmington’s the other night, you know I was grabbing this phenomenally creative cocktail — with mignonette and vegan oyster balls, I felt like I was trying a deconstructed oyster.

What I love about The Blind Elephant is a willingness to take risks. Another cocktail that night (not pictured) used cream cheese-washed vodka for an out of this world flavor.

I’m continually impressed with the cocktails put out here and can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!
💡DID YOU KNOW…that if you say “Bloody Mary” three times in a row, a delicious drink will appear in front of you?!

I took part in the Bloody Mary bar crawl yesterday and tested my limits of how many Bloody Marys I could actually drink (the answer is surprisingly more than I thought).

Loved how varied they were!

I made it to to start with the Big Dill and Blazin’ Bloody options — solid start! Then came,,, and (not pictured), which had a great option but I was too busy chatting to take a photo. 😅

A big thanks to for the pizza 🍕 that probably kept me going throughout the day. If you haven’t been to Pizzeria Don Luca yet, you’re missing out. Best pizza in Wilmy IMO (and voted best hole in the wall pizza joint in NC - yes, that’s ALL of NC!!)

I thought after I probably wouldn’t want a Bloody Mary for a little while. But guess what I woke up craving? 😂🍅

Each Bloody had its own delicious take. But my favorites added a little spice 🔥

Are you a Bloody Mary fan?? If no, drop your fave brunch drink in the comments.
We all know I love an Argentinian Malbec. So I grabbed a 2023 bottle of Malbec from & decided to have a fun Sunday night!

This Malbec is from Mendoza, and the appellation is Lujan de Cuyo. Fun fact: Lujan de Cuyo was the first appellation recognized for wine 🍷 production in 1993. The soil has a high limestone presence.

🍇: 100% Malbec
📶: 13.9% ABV — 5.5 g/l acidity — 2.7 g/l residual sugar
🥂 Winemakers are Alberto Antonini, Pedro Parra, Federico Gambetta, and Ana Wiederhold

This Malbec is first fermented in small concrete tanks for 15 days, then aged for 12 months in concrete pools (90% of the wine) and untoasted large oak foudres (10% of the wine), then aged 6 months in the bottle.

💜: Color is deep, opaque red-purple

👃🏼: Luscious blackberries and red berries, a slight herbaceous element, something I can’t quite put a name to but similar to the vanilla base of a fruit tart — just kind of this smooth, almost silky note — I don’t know quite how to describe it but I enjoy it.

👅: BOOM — here come those berries. Very lush, bright and jammy at first. Not overly acidic, but nice. That makes way for a bit of spice/pepper, and a bit of minerality. But it’s very juicy, very very juicy.

I’m ~garbage~ when it comes to pairings, so I’m currently enjoying a glass of this wine with a pasta I made the other night — a creamy red wine onion pasta with a kick of heat from — but you could also probably pair this with smoky meats, aged cheddar (Get that charcuterie board!!), steak, or even dark chocolate.
🍁Fall is here, enjoy some cheer🍁

It’s been so long since we were able to get out to End of Days — but when we heard was there the other night, we knew we had to stop in. After all, what’s better than freshly shucked oysters?! 🦪

Of course, we had to indulge in some fall drinks. I had a plum saké drink that was absolutely incredible. Evan went for the Conflicts Resolved — Castaway Series Barrel Rested Gin, sweet vermouth, tuaca,, bitters, and a smoky Scotch mist.

As usual, EOD hit it out of the park — and reminded me why we need to do more cocktail dates!

[Photo 1: Both cocktails; Photo 2: Conflicts Resolved; Photo 3: my cocktail; Photo 4-5: Big Cypress Mariculture oysters]
I’m a FIANCÉE!! ♥️🥰😭

Thank you so much to for the incredible pics, but also to for this incredible setup!

Addie was absolutely wonderful. She helped Evan get everything set up, brought a bottle of champagne 🍾, and helped bring the vision to life.

If you’re looking for an absolutely gorgeous beach picnic setup, just to enjoy or for a birthday or engagement, you should definitely call Coastal Soul Picnics! 🌊
Another lovely #RedWine from our dinner at! 🍷

2000 Chateau Musar
📍: Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
🍇: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan
🛢: Fermented in cement vats and then aged for 1 year in French nevers oak barriques
🍷: 13.5% ABV
👃🏼: Deep, earthy, leather, dark ripe red fruit, tobacco, fresh figs just cut open
👅: Dark chocolate, fresh fig, some earthiness but still bright. Medium to high acidity, moderate tannins.

This was my first ever wine from Lebanon and I was very impressed! It paired nicely with the meal. I’m looking forward to exploring more #LebaneseWine and some more selections from Chateau Musar in the future!

#AD21+ — Recently, I’ve been somewhat of a mixologist. My roommate is a bar manager / amazing cocktail creator here in Richmond, so I’ve been inspired to take cocktail making into my own hands too! Of course, since I love bourbon, I reach for when I’m innovating.

Recently, I saw a Blackberry Bourbon Smash out at a local Richmond spot, and wanted to put my own spin on the drink that so many Richmond people love. So I created a Blackberry Mint Maker’s Mark Smash!

Recipe:
- 2 parts Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky
- 3 dashes Angostura bitters
- 3/4 parts Blackberry Vanilla simple syrup
- 1/2 parts lime juice
- 5 blackberries (muddled)
- 3-4 mint leaves (muddled)

I read that a Bourbon Smash often also includes some club soda; I chose to forgo that because I decided to be a purist today. That being said, I do think that this would be delicious with some soda water, and will definitely be trying this in the future!

The result was a deliciously sweet cocktail where the mint — and the Maker’s Mark — really shined through. What I love about Maker’s Mark is that its flavor is distinctive, but also pairs well with so many other ingredients. It is, truly, such a versatile bourbon that can be enjoyed in so many ways. Of course, whenever you’re experimenting, please remember to drink responsibly! I’ll be enjoying this Blackberry Bourbon Smash while I savor the fall weather here in Richmond.

Now you know how I enjoy Maker’s Mark. Drop your favorite Maker’s Mark recipe below and let me know how you enjoy it!**Click the link in my bio to learn more about Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky!**
