今日は同志社大学のゼミの学生さんたちに「着物とわたし」と題したお話をさせてもらって来ました。
知識ゼロの状態からお店を始めて六年目を迎えた今、着物はわたしに日本人としてだけでなく、着物という衣服を愛する一人の人間としてのアイデンティティを教えてくれています。
ファッションの一つから人生の伴侶としての存在へ。
好きを見つけて広がる世界は、誰の人生も輝かせてくれる。
そんなことも感じてもらえたら嬉しいな。
後半は、自由に意見交換をするディスカッション。
着物を着る人、作る人が減り続けている現代、みんなは着物の未来をどんな風に考えているかしら。
文化としての誇りを持って受け継がれていくと思うグループ半分、着物を着ることのさまざまなハードルの高さゆえ淘汰されていくと思うグループが半分。
どちらの意見も、とても真摯だと思うのです。
そこで、残ると答えたグループの方に聞きたかったことをもう一つ。
着物はそれを着ること一つをとっても伝え受け継ぐことが必要な、世界的に見ても稀な民族衣装。確かに何も知らないまま着物と帯を手渡されても、どうやって身につけたら良いかわからないですよね。
そんなハードルの高さをもった着物文化を受け継ぐために、あなたにできることは何だと思う？
もらった答えは、「今すぐに具体的にできることはなかったとしても興味を持ち続けること。」でした。
あぁ，ほんとにその通り。
大袈裟なことじゃなくて良い、「ちょっと良いな，素敵だな」と思う気持ちが、心に小さな種を蒔く。その種が一つ二つと芽吹いていってくれたなら、着物の未来はきっと明るいと信じています。
50年後、わたしに代わってみんなで見届けてくださいね。

昨年の夏、「買おうか、いや買うまいか」「わたしにはまだまだ早いのと違うかな」などと散々悩み、あれが出来たらこれが出来たらなどと置いたハードルも、なんとかクリア。
そうと決まれば大切にしまっておくより、一回でも多く身につけた方がいいに決まってる。さっそく洗い張りして仕立て直していただきました。
着てみて初めてわかった芭蕉布の素晴らしさ。
着付けるのはたいへんかもと心配しましたが、思いのほか着やすくシワも気になりません。
やっぱり決断して良かった！
