Obviously my favourite part is the landing cupboard though and being able to hide the drying washing 🤩😂 I do need to get some more art on the walls upstairs, where is your go to for art? Not sure what style I want either!

Ikea Trofast units are brilliant for storage and so easy to make bespoke looking with vinyl stickers and some paint.
I added a little curtain on a curtain wire so the space where the chair is also gets used as a hiding spot and just adds a bit of extra pattern.
Love how we’ve got a play space that fits the aesthetic of the room.

Our DIY banquette has transformed how we use our dining room now. With a growing family, we needed more space and using this alcove for a dining nook has meant the other side of this room can now be a playroom. We still have space to comfortably sit 6 around a table and even gained 3 big drawers for storage. We used Ikea Besta units for this hack- check out my pinned posts for all the how to steps.

For now we are in parent survival mode and the double bed means one of us can co sleep with our toddler.
Maybe when the girls can share a room that may help the sleeping situation?! 😬
Also can’t believe how much more energised I feel from newborn sleep vs third trimester sleep… I swear in that last month of pregnancy that even when you sleep you feel like you haven’t 🤪 Hoping for a baby that sleeps better this time 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Top tip, using a tablecloth means for your frilled edges you wouldn’t have to hem them 😉
Also somewhere like is perfect for sourcing small amounts of designer dead-stock which would be perfect for a project like this. They also sell pre made piping!

Who’s adding a golden yellow ceiling to their 2026 house projects?!

Moulding and paint are what really finish it off though.
Step by step guide:
- We used 4x2 inch CLS timber to make a base
- I always have to drawer designs out with measurements before I start to figure out the gaps between units
- We haven’t secured it to our flooring or to our wall as we have damp proof in the walls here so couldn’t screw in
- to get the depth of seating I wanted we allowed for a gap behind the units - also allowed for breathing space behind
- once each Besta unit was secured in place, we added 18mm MDF tops- made a small measurement error here but was all fixable with filler
- then we used MDF cut to size to box it all in around the units
- added a moulding to the mdf edges as they are rough and this looks more finished
- used some architrave along the bottom again to just give it that more premium finish
- we did manage to move the socket - fiddly but worth it as theres only two sockets in this room.
It’s made such a difference to space in this room which is basically a play room now. Nice big drawers for some more storage and means we can sit in this room with our little girl playing ❤️
