I now prioritize bothāstarting with photos, then shifting to video. I shoot most footage in 4K at 120fps, which allows me to capture rich, cinematic slow motion. From that level of detail, I can pause at almost any moment and pull striking frames that stand on their own as photographs.
The trade-off, of course, is audioāslow motion means silence. But for the way I tell stories, that limitation fits perfectly into my workflow.

Birds saved my lifeāthough I didnāt know it at the time.
Before the pandemic, each morning on my way to work, I would find and gently gather three or four birds lost to window collisions. I brought them to our ornithology department so their stories could continue through research. Day after day, in that quiet ritual, my understanding of Philadelphiaās vast avian biodiversity deepened, and so did my connection to the natural world around me.
Then the world slowed. COVID arrived, and the collecting stopped. But in the stillness, a new purpose emerged. I bought a bike. I picked up a simple camera. And I began exploring the cityās green spacesālistening, watching, learning.
I no longer wanted to meet birds in silence on the ground.
I wanted to witness them aliveāthriving, resilient, carving poetry into the sky.
I didnāt realize it then, but in following their wings, I was learning how to fly again myself.
