But in all seriousness👇🏼
This was one of the most beautiful places to stay in Tuscany!
Make sure you save this for your Italy road trip:
📍 Villa Certano, Costalpino, Siena 🇮🇹
This accommodation in Tuscany was just 10mins from Siena and a great place to explore the Tuscan towns and wine region during our Italy road trip.
We stayed in the Studio Room, which was € 142 per night in October, and featured a double bed, small fridge, coffee pod machine, stovetop & cookware, kettle, toaster, dining table & a private bathroom.
We had access to a private garden with an undercover table & chairs and an outdoor table & chairs.
AND we got a welcome bottle of wine 🍷 (it is a vineyard, after all!)
It was peaceful, beautiful, and we even booked a private cooking class with the villa’s staff/family chef which we enjoyed in the 600 year-old villa (more on that later).
I would highly recommend this as one of the best places to stay in Tuscany! Though we also loved Pienza and think that would be an ideal base for a Tuscany road trip as well.

✨ Spoiler alert ✨ Taking good photos on the Bernina Express Train is much harder than it looks!
BUT, there are some hacks that will help…
If you’re like me and have seen epic photos of scenic trains, especially the Bernina Express from Swizterland to Italy and dreamed of taking them yourself, read on for some tips before hopping on board 👇🏼
WHEN BOOKING:
🎟️ Class: Make sure you book into 1st class. This puts you in the first or second carriages with access to 3 small windows that open (one near the toilet of your carriage and two in between the carriages). This is how you get shots of the train as it curves over bridges & bends.
💺 Seat selection: For the journey from Chur - Tirano you’ll want to reserve seats on the right-hand side of the train. For the return journey, choose the left-hand side of the train. This gives you the best scenic views from your seat.
ON BOARD:
🎧 Use the ‘infotrainment’ map to see what landmarks are coming up and which way the train will be bending. Pick one of the open windows on the same side to the bend to get the best photo. So if the front of the train is curving around to the right, go to the right window - and vice versa. Shoot 📸 forwards until halfway across the bend and then switch and shoot backwards.
📸 Use a wide angle lens for capturing more of the scene. My pics are shot with a Z series 14-24mm f/2.8 which is a beast of a lens with minimal distortion even at 14mm.

Worth it! Here’s why👇🏼
Living in Australia means everything in Europe (and just about the rest of the world) is so far away.
Seeing places that are so wildly different to back home is one of the best parts of travelling!
So, visiting 📍Grindelwald, Switzerland was definitely worth it for us!
(We travelled to Grindelwald in Switzerland because it was on the way from Munich to Italy, and Lauterbrunnen was on my bucket list).
Otherwise, we probably wouldn’t have done it!
But I’m glad we did, even if it was for just one day.
Would you do this?

This is for my future self, and for anyone else planning a visit here or to a place that’s long been on their bucket list. 👇🏼
1. Plan time in your itinerary to visit more than once during your stay. I got sooo lucky with the weather on this morning, as another photographer told us every morning he had come here to shoot for the past week was foggy and the mountains were not visible. I spent a brief morning here to make the most of our one day in Switzerland, and it wasn’t nearly enough time to satisfy my excitement for the place I had long dreamed of visiting!
2. You can not and will not ever control the weather. I know it’s obvious, but it’s a good reminder. Sometimes things fall into place, like the weather in Lauterbrunnen did for me. But sometimes they don’t (for example we had to cancel the Dolomites due to weather). All you can do is hope & pray, watch the weather, be flexible where you can, and remember you can always come back another time. And in the case of less than ideal conditions, still find it within you to feel grateful that you got to experience it in the first place.
3. It’s okay to be excited. Sometimes it can be a case of building something up in your head and expectations not being equal to reality, but in the case of Lauterbrunnen and Staubbach Falls, the place absolutely blew my mind and was exactly what I thought it would be. The joy and excitement of finally ticking somewhere off your bucket list is, in my opinion, unmatched.
4. Just because it was “the plan” doesn’t mean you have to stick to it. We planned to visit here in the morning then scoot off to do other things. And when the weather was perfect and we were loving Lauterbrunnen, we still dashed off to try and do the next thing. In hindsight, we should have pivoted and stayed here to enjoy it for longer. Don’t be afraid to change the plan - check in with yourself and companions frequently with questions like; “are we enjoying ourselves here?” “Would we rather do x or y right now.” That way you’ll leave without regrets.

1. No bookings are available here so it’s first come, first serve! There’s also no designated sites so pick your fav spot and set up camp 🙌🏻
2. It currently costs $11 per night per adult to camp here.
3. There’s no showers/bathrooms, just drop toilets.
4. You can take boats on the water here for skiing, but last I checked the bank of the boat ramp had collapsed.
5. It is 2WD accessible 🚗
