I’ve been trying to tame porcelain for animal mugs for a very long time now.

There is something about the pure whiteness of porcelain that feels perfect for expressing the softness and quietness I imagine in these pieces. Tiny turtles, whales, seals… delicate little creatures living on the surface of something made to be held every day.

But porcelain has its own personality.

No matter how carefully I make them, the mugs still often come out warped after firing. Slightly oval, slightly twisted — porcelain shrinks and moves in the kiln in ways that are difficult to fully control. To achieve perfectly round forms consistently, I would likely need specially designed porcelain firing supports and a much more complex production process.

At the moment, my small studio simply isn’t built for that kind of industrial precision.

So for now, some of these mugs exist only as single experiments, little memories of the process and the ideas I wanted to bring to life. Like these tiny turtles swimming around this cup 🐢

Maybe one day I’ll finally figure out how to truly tame porcelain.

Back to my Berlin routine after a long, soul-filling vacation with my family 🤍
Days spent with my parents, sister, and little niece always feel like a reset for my heart. So much warmth, care, laughter, homemade food, slow mornings, and that feeling of being loved no matter what.

Now I’m returning to the studio with a full battery and straight into work mode again.

At the moment I’m finishing a very urgent shark sculpture commission — and this customer requested one thing very clearly:
more porcelain teeth. As many as possible 🦈

Honestly… the more tiny details a sculpture has, the more alive it starts to feel. So I’m carefully sculpting every tooth by hand and trying not to lose my sanity in the process.

Back to clay, deadlines, coffee, and late studio nights ✨

Not all ocean lovers were born by the water 🌊

Take our newest alliance member:.

She is ceramicist born in Russia, based in Berlin, who has adored the sea her whole life from somewhere far inland 🤍

💬 “I didn’t grow up by the sea, yet I’ve always missed it somehow,” she explains. “like longing for a place my soul knew before I did.”

🐋 She sculpts whales most of all. Gentle giants with ancient eyes. Shaping them is closest way she knows to inhabit their aquatic world.

“If I cannot live in the ocean, then at least a small part of it can live through my hands.”

Now her longing shapes the art that invites so many others to connect with a great blue. And what a gift that is.

Welcome to the Ocean Rising crew, Aleksandra! 🙌

A few weeks of work compressed into a few seconds of video.
At the beginning there was mostly silence, concentration… and a little fear.
Will it work? Will the proportions feel right? Will the clay survive my hands and my ideas?

But somewhere in the middle of the process, after hours of studying forms, fixing mistakes, rebuilding details and slowly understanding the structure better… the fear disappears.
And then comes that strange beautiful state where the work completely absorbs you.

Piece by piece, the girl and the whale started to feel alive to me.
And when the result finally becomes something you truly love — maybe that is the real meaning of being an artist.

Some pieces surprise me by how deeply they resonate with people, and these Manta Ray Lamps are one of them. They always seem to find their homes almost immediately — this time they were gone within the first minute of the shop update.

Maybe it is their shape, maybe the softness of the light, maybe the feeling of something gentle and alive moving through water.

If you would like one of these lamps, I accept custom orders through my online shop — link in bio.

Today’s shop update is live, and so many special pieces found homes within the very first minutes. Thank you so much. Every message in my DMs, every kind word, every impression you share with me fills me with warmth and gratitude. It means more than you know.

The emotional center of this update, for me, is this sculpture.

A figure rising upward, supported by a whale beneath her. Calm, balanced, face turned toward the light. As if together they are surfacing from the depths.

I wanted to create not just an object, but a reflection of feelings many of us know: the desire to breathe again after difficult times, the search for peace, the hope of reaching brighter waters.

We all need something to hold onto when life feels heavy. Sometimes our support comes through people. Sometimes through love, purpose, work, art, nature, faith, or the quiet strength we discover inside ourselves.

What helps lift us when we feel lost? What carries us upward toward air, light, and life again?

This sculpture was born from those thoughts. A reminder that even after deep waters, rising is possible.

Tomorrow at 17:00 CET my small shop update goes live.
The centerpiece of this drop — a collection of porcelain night-light sculptures, glowing like creatures from another world. ✨

Whales, sharks, manta rays… each one handbuilt and made to bring a little ocean magic into the dark.

Shop update is coming on April 20th at 5 PM (CET).
Right now I’m putting all my energy into it — working a lot, trying to prepare a beautiful variety of pieces for you.

If everything goes well and the update is successful, I’m really hoping to finally take a little trip to see my parents. I haven’t seen them for seven months now… and I miss them a lot.

Wishing all of us a soft, blooming spring — outside and somewhere deeper inside too.

This shark takes over a week before it even reaches the kiln.

Porcelain hammerhead 🦈
It starts long before shaping —
the porcelain is mixed, then left to rest to reach the right consistency.

Only after that I begin building the form:
basic shapes first, then assembling the body piece by piece.

When the structure is ready and the clay is still soft,
I pierce the surface to create the texture.

Each hole is then carefully softened with a brush,
and the entire piece is smoothed with a wet sponge to unify the surface.

After the bisque firing, I work black pigment into the back —
to create depth that will stay visible through the layers.

Then comes high firing.
Then transparent glaze — and another firing.

And finally, a pearlescent luster on the back…
followed by one more firing.

Four firings in total.
Because this surface cannot be achieved any other way.

This tiny double espresso cup with a little seal was made as a custom order 🦭✨

I really love making pieces like this —
they feel so special and personal.

At the same time, because of their size,
they take a lot of careful, detailed work and quite a bit of time.

So I don’t usually include cups like this in my shop.
But from time to time I create them as custom pieces
for people who are looking for something truly personal —
like this little seal.
