I’ll never forget getting a call from Barbara Cox (RIP) of asking if I wanted to release a previously unheard Charles Mingus concert recorded at the Strata Concert Gallery in Detroit, 1973.
At the time, I had no idea what the tapes even sounded like. Months of research later — with help from — we pieced together the band and the story behind the recording.
With the blessing of Sue Mingus (RIP), the world finally got to hear it.
And the search continues…
I’m still trying to track down the concert recorded at the Strata Gallery.
