I finished reading this book in early March and only now have I found the courage to talk about it. I donโt know what put in here, but sheโs managed to create a real addiction to this story!
I knew it was a dark dystopian and enemies-to-lovers book. I didnโt know I would watch two people genuinely try to murder each other and sit there grinning like something was deeply wrong with me. This is enmity at its purest, ideological, irreversible, where every wound carries meaning and trust must be built from zero. It isnโt brutality for spectacle, itโs instruction. Every act, however harsh, is a language: a system teaching you what to fear, what to accept, and what to become.
The Heart, the rings, the class system, the violence, the cursing, the biting prose itself: everything leans into an unapologetically chaotic atmosphere. Like rage and determination bottled and handed to you instead of a drink. Yes, you may need to suspend some logic. But this story was never designed to conform to science, it was designed to inspire hope.
Shadera prowls, walks into every job already at peace with dying, and yet she is the most alive person in every room. She is hope that doesnโt know its own name yet. The rebellionโs heart, whether she wants that responsibility or not. Greyson is control on the outside, shame and desperation on the inside. They are two people fighting the same war from opposite trenches, both asking the same agonizing question: Do the ends justify the means? When does fighting oppression start to mirror it? Premessa doverosa: non aspettatevi una trama leggera, una storia dโamore comfort e delle scene di intimitร โvanillaโ, perchรฉ non รจ ciรฒ che troverete in questo romanzo. Lauren e James sono due adulti, ultra-quarantenni, che condividono un passato burrascoso e tormentato, fatto di bugie, inganni e profonde assenze, per questa ragione rientrano nelle rispettive vite in modo impetuoso e veemente, con rabbia e risentimento.
Ogni aspetto รจ costruito in modo coerente rispetto alla personalitร dei protagonisti, la cui caratterizzazione psicologica viene sviluppata in modo sublime, grazie anche a delle dinamiche di fondo - le elezioni federali in California - molto originali.
James non รจ un golden boy, ha qualche problema di mis-comunication e un ego ingombrante, ma i suoi comportamenti hanno motivazioni ben precise, che gli offuscano la mente e la capacitร di giudizio. I started this book expecting a dark romantic suspense, but what I found was something far more emotionally intense. The story thrives on raw vulnerability, unspoken desires, deep-rooted insecurities, quiet longing and a kind of tension that burns slowly until it becomes almost unbearable. The kind of narrative that hurts in the most addictive way. What impressed me the most was the character development. Their emotional evolution unfolds gradually, layer after layer, allowing every shift in their dynamic to feel genuine and earned.
Ophelia felt incredibly real to me. She carries the weight of abandonment, struggles to trust anyone, and hides behind a quiet, solitary exterior. Yet beneath that fragile armour lies a fiercely intelligent girl who craves recognition, validation, and a place where she truly belongs.
And then thereโs Alex Corbeau-Green, easily one of my newest fictional obsessions. Gruff, sarcastic, emotionally guardedโฆ yet unmistakably soft where it truly matters. The kind of man whose love language shows itself through loyalty, protectiveness and quiet devotion. And yes, he yearns. Intensely!
The ending was heart-wrenching. Even though parts of the mystery were somewhat predictable, the final chapters still managed to leave me reeling and now Iโm impatiently waiting for book two!โจ

Jeremy, al di lร della maschera da duro, impenetrabile e cinico erede di Adrian Volkov, possiede profonde fragilitร e un marcato senso di cura, protezione, nei confronti dellโaltro. Nonostante la storia non presenti tanti plot-twist come Rina ci ha abituato nei precedenti romanzi, riesce comunque a tenere incollata alle pagine, grazie al tangibile processo evolutivo dei personaggi, sia rispetto a se stessi e alle loro famiglie, che nella dimensione di coppia! ๐ฆ

Gennaio รจ stato un mese interminabile in cui non sono riuscita ad essere molto presente e devo dire che mi dispiace perchรฉ amo stare in vostra compagnia a parlare di libri. Lโuniversitร e la scrittura della tesi mi portano via la maggior parte del tempo e le giornate di pioggia torrenziale non aiutano affatto nella creazione di contenuti! ๐ฉ๐ง๏ธ
