    The concept of influencers has been around for many years prior to the advent of social media platforms like Instagram. The exact pinpointing of the start of influencers isn’t a definite occurrence, as endorsement and influence marketing can be traced back to even the early days of radio advertisements, TV appearances, and beyond. However, the term ‘influencer’ gained widespread recognition with rise of blogging platforms in the early 2000s, where bloggers garnered loyal followers and began to have significant sway over their audience’s buying decisions.

    Many of these bloggers transitioned into modern-day influencers when social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube came into existence. YouTube, which was launched in 2005, emerged as one of the first significant platforms for influencers. It enabled creators to reach their audience in a more engaging, visual, and personal manner.

    Ensuingly, Twitter (launched in 2006) and Instagram (launched in 2010) further boosted the influencer marketing arena. Instagram, in particular, became a favored platform due to its focus on visuals and ease of use.

    Various influencer marketing platforms, such as Flinque, have since emerged to aid brands to manage their influencer strategies, providing features from influencer discovery, audience analytics, campaign workflows, to ROI measurement.
